Ensenada explodes with massive crowds at contingency!!!

Ensenada, Baja California -- The Baja 500 contingency went off huge today here on this well-known tourist destination on the Baja Peninsula. Tens of thousands of race fans converged into the streets of Ensenada near the Riviera Convention Center to mingle with desert racing's biggest and baddest race teams. Defending Champion-Troy Herbst is here in the Terrible's Herbst Truggy ready to defend his crown. Honda's Johnny Campbell & Steve Hengeveld sat in the Honda Tent this afternoon mingling with the Honda crew just off contingency row.

Driving NASCAR's Robby Gordon #31 Red Bull sponsored-Trophy Truck, Ultra Wheels founder- Jimmy Smith was seen here at contingency cool, calm and collective ready to get back behind the wheel of Gordon's mean machine.

With temperatures hovering right around 80 degrees, the slight breeze off the Pacific Ocean was just what the Dr. Neiderreter ordered. SCORE International sponsors Tecate and Coca Cola were blasting music across the rows of contingency as the day wore on as thousands of frenzied desert race fans soaked up the sun that bounced off the sleek ocean waves.

In Class 5/1600, Gerardo Iribe and Marcus Nunez are set to battle in the rough Baja terrain with a near record number of entries.

Rob MacCachren is set to pull some Robby Gordon type of "Double Duty," as he plans to race in the Vildosola Trophy Truck, as well as race his 1/2 1600 car amongst the battle of warriors in this epic class. MacCachren is splitting driving duties with Class 1 racer - Danny Anderson in tomorrows classic race. Class 1/2 1600 is filled with big names raging towards a first place win. ESPN's Cameron Steele, SCORE Young Guns - Adam Pfankuch & Brian Jeffrey, Travis & Brad Fletcher, Rick Boyer & Steve Roberts, Jorge Martinez & Pancho Bio. This class is one to watch as the race leaves Ensenada.

Here at 6:00 p.m., the crowds have begun to diminish as spectators and race teams head to their favorite spots on the Ensenada Malecon for a pre-race fiesta.

By early tomorrow morning the crowds will line the famed race course for an entire day of racing.

SCORE will send off the motorcycles off the start line beginning at 6:00 a.m. and four wheel vehicle at 9:00 a.m. You can expect the first race bikes to arrive across the finish line at 2:30-3:30 p.m.

ORC will be providing updates throughout the day from various race locations as well as the start/finish line.
