SCORE Desert Series

It's tough to call, but the today's racing was absolutely amazing. Although the Trophy Truck's were the most visually amazing, the Class 1 action was kicking ass. Try one second in between Mark Weyrich in the TSCO car and Dale Ebberts in the Inland Truss, Inc. car. To boot, the Class 1's were the fastest vehicles on the course.

Trophy Truck action was next on the charts. The real crowd pleaser was none other than the Riviera Trophy Truck, which tossed its horsepower around the course on the edge and nearing recklessness. Like the Riviera truck, Brian Collins was on the gas and turning some impressive times as well. His feat was being the first truck to completely clear the road crossing. Take a look at the video. You won't be let down.

Just when fast was almost fast enough, Harley Letner and Sean Sessa fired up the afterburners in their Class 10 cars with impressive speeds. It wasn't a game of hot pursuit. It was a nervous game of "how am I going to keep this guy from nerfing me?" Both were clocked launching over Needles Highway Road Crossing No. 1 at 73 MPH. Keep in mind though, they weren't the only ones in the mix. Ken Flippin, Steve Myers and Dennis Hunter were also zip tied to the throttles of their cars, blasting through at 71 MPH, but after all was said and done, it was Eli Yee crossed the finish line with the day's victory.

Pandering to the crowd's pleasure, Poor Man's Hill was finally open for spectating action. From what security officials were saying on previous days and the towing of vehicles, we were under the impression it may remained closed the weekend through. But again, the In classic off-road racing style prevailed. Prerunners, disco trucks, ice chests, race shirts, lounge chairs, boom boxes, American flags, and All-American ladies lined up along the course for an excellent day in the desert. Our hats off for the Freedom to spectate!

The Great Laughlin Lifestyle
Words would do little to describe and are hopeless in replacing the reality of actually being here at the 2003 Laughlin Desert Challenge. Wish you were here!

"Yeah, mama, check it out on Off-Road.com." This reader raps on the phone to headquarters, describing his 2003 Laughlin Desert Challenge experience. In that description, he makes mention of how a Geo Tracker smacked into his sweet Ford F-150. The Tracker was totaled. The Ford only suffered slight body damage and a tweaked rear axle, but the party raged on nonetheless.
