0756 Hours: Jesse "Madman" Jones grabs hold of the slim physical lead in his 76 Fuel Ford Trophy Truck. The truck makes its debut before the crowd enoromous crowds who continue to amass here in the world famous Guadalupe Wash, where the dust conditions are turning into a continuing close call for spectators who skirt the invisible walls of the race course.

If Jesse Jones aims to keep his lead, he'll have to shake off the Chevy Silverado of Mark Miller as well as the Baja 2000-winning Trophy Truck of Dave Ashley and Dan Smith BFGoodrich Trophy Truck, which was but a few seconds behind Miller and gaining speed with his motor tapping the upper limits of the RPM's and sounding as sweet as can be.

The motor sounds so sweet to the ears. It's no wonder why the fans went wild when the BFGoodrich Ford blasted through at warp speed. Arrelio, scene here with his brother Johnny, are well on their way to their second 12-pack of Caguamas and have rescued about a dozen stuck spectator vehicles from the loose sand in their Ford Ranger Baja Prerunner Especial.

Captain Kia, Darren Skilton, was further back in the pack of leaders, but not by far. He began picking up the pace as he made his way past our location here in Guadalupe.

The Herbst Truggy is climbing up through the pack of Trophy Trucks, in his Class 1-leading pace.

Andrey Myers was tucked in behind the Herbst dust and closing in. The dust cloud becomes increasingly dangerous and the fans of Quadalupe Wash are loving it. Just behind Myers is the Losbam Yee car, followed by last year's winner, Scott McMillin, and the Las Vegas Dissemenation car of Pat Dean.

The fans live on the edge, but the edge is too close for this classic Baja car, the low-riding Plymouth Scamp. This "vatos" showed up on the scene three cans short of a six pack and immediately unloaded a large speaker the size of the trunk. The party continued. Just after this shot, the Scamp managed to sink dead-center in the course, where it still sits.
