'03 Gas Gas Dealer's Convention - Prescott, AZ

Gas Gas Motors of America held this year's 2004' Dealers Convention in lovely Prescott Arizona. The convention drew in dealers from New York to California. Saturday kicked things off with meetings consisting of after-market part demos, product updates, and new product unveiling. Juan Romero CEO of Gas Gas Motors of America, put on a first rate show. I had time to speak with Juan and took note of the integrity and excitement that he spoke with about his products. For test riding Gas Gas chose to use the Alto Pit OHV area just outside of Prescott. This made for an extremely technical ride with rocky hills, tight woods, g-outs and one deep whoop section. Handling: On the FSE450 I immediately noticed how light the bike felt (especially for an enduro). I own a kx125 and when I try riding some of the other new 400-450 four-strokes out there, they really feel heavy. This was not the case on the FSE450. However, due to the technical, tight, rocky terrain I had a low speed oops. But hey, I've never ridden a bike under these conditions. Suspension: I felt the suspension to be well dialed in. I could pound through the whoops and jump with confidence. It would be great to test the FSE450's suspension out on a moto-cross track or some wide-open desert whoops. Motor: The 450 fuel-injected motor was superb. It had terrific torque, a wide power-band, and was overall very comfortable. The trails were very gravelly and I would have loved to see what this bike could have done with some better traction. Pros & Cons: The FSE450 chassis feels light and nimble. The 450 fuel injected motor is very well rounded and friendly. The price tag however is $7,295, which may alienate potential buyers.
