For 2002, two main technical issues were addressed - POWER & HANDLING. Every engine displacement in the line has received technical improvements that ensure more power. To compliment more powerful engines, the suspension components received a great deal of attention, guaranteeing improved performance.

Engine Objectives:

For 2002, power is the name of the game. Every engine displacement in the KTM line has received attention from the R&D team at KTM Austria leading to numerous technical improvements that ensures optimum power and increased overall performance. Starting with he two-time motocross world-championship winning 125 engine,(which also serves as the platform for the 200 EXC/MXC engine)the KTM engineers have managed to squeeze out better throttle response and more overall power throughout he range. For the 2002 model year, KTM motors were optimized in various details and upgraded by adding modifications derived from KTM s factory racing efforts.

Suspension Objectives:

Every 2002 model benefits from improved suspension settings. At the heart of KTMs suspension package lies KTM's ingenious, PDS system - the world's only mass produced rear suspension without linkage. Lower maintenance, superior performance, ease of service, reliability and lighter weight are all benefits of PDS. For 2002 the PDS shock has received serious attention with improved internal settings and an all new forged shock body. Up front, the WP USD forks have received numerous upgrades for improved performance. All new for the 2002 SX models are WP USD 48mm forks. Derived from Grand Prix Motocross and U.S. Supercross racing efforts, the 2002 front suspension system allows a wider range of external adjustment, along with an external preload adjuster.

Chassis Features:

Removable aluminum subframes, aluminum handlebars with variable mounting options, Brembo brakes with elf cleaning rotors and braided steel lines, large easily accessible air filter you can change without tools, chromoly steel frames, nickel-plated exhausts, extruded & forged aluminum swingarms -it all here, the whole package. These are just some of the high quality, innovative features that set KTM apart from the competition. While KTM continually provides the highest caliber components with every bike, a fresh look complete with new graphics and a stronger sidestand are some of the upgrades for the 2002 line of world championship winning bikes.

The Big News For California

The 2002 KTM EXC racing 4-stroke now has a Vehicle Identification Number and meets green sticker regulations for off road use. The California version EXC racing 4-stroke delivers the same riding performance as every KTM.
