More TORC Crandon Highlights

Pro-Light race number two was stopped before it even got started. The pack was bunched up in turn one and Randy Eller got the brunt of it. He rolled on his side and then dug the front bumper into the dirt sending him end over end. They restacked the field starting them side by side in groups of two. Shawn Morris took the holeshot followed by Travis Dinsmore and Brad Lovell. Lovell got up on two wheels and could not save it, bringing out a yellow flag to restart the racers yet again.

Shawn Morris took his first win in front of the packed Crandon crowd during the final Pro-Light race of the day.

Morris again took the lead after the re-start with Dinsmore and Doug Mittag fighting for second. Morris was on rails and soon had five-truck-length lead. Dinsmore got up on two wheels heading into turn two, but he kept the throttle pinned and saved it by sliding along the wall and maintaining his position. As Dinsmore and Mittag battled, CJ Greaves snuck past both of them in Argon corner only to suffer a flat that sent him to the pits.

Jerret Brooks took the 2014 Pro-Light Championship after finishing third in the final race of the season.

At the checkers it was Morris with his first victory followed by Dinsmore (his first podium) and the eventual 2014 Pro-Light Champion Jerret Brooks in third.

Kyle LeDuc got off to another great start in the Amsoil Cup.

By the time the Amsoil Cup race was lining up, the fans had been treated to incredible action that more than made up for the loss of racing the day before. The Pro-2s took off with their typical headstart on the Pro-4s, and Chad Hord quickly jumped out to the lead. While Johnny Greaves and Kyle LeDuc started rubbing fenders right off the start, the action was quickly halted after Mark Kvamme suffered a dramatic crash that launched his truck about 20 feet into the air that forced a red-flag stop of the race. Kvamme was safely removed from his truck and sent off to the hospital for observation.

Scott Douglas is a Crandon veteran, but he was unable to put it together at make the podium this weekend.

The entire race was lined up once again for another of Crandon’s famous land-rush starts. Once again it was Chad Hord Leading the Pro-2s after turn one with RJ Anderson just behind. Kyle LeDuc was the first Pro-4 but he already looked bashed up; broken fiberglass body panels were flapping as he took off after the Pro-2s. As the laps went by, the Monster Energy Pro-4s of LeDuc and the father-and-son Greaves duo were closing fast on the Pro-2s of Hord and Anderson. Soon LeDuc had worked his way into third overall, 5.5 seconds behind Hord with a slight lead on his Pro-4 Monster Energy teammates. After getting pressured by LeDuc, Anderson made a miscue and slammed into Hord’s left rear tire that sent him flying high into the air.

Meanwhile, Anderson continued his battle out front but was unable to hold off the Pro-4s, though CJ Greaves was forced to pull off before the finish. With LeDuc in the lead and Johnny Greaves in second, Anderson held onto the final podium spot to represent the Pro 2s. LeDuc, who was driving like a mad man going through corners more than sideways, finished atop the podium for the second timeon the day and earning his second cup race at Crandon – first at the 40th Crandon race and now the 45th annual event.

Kyle LeDuc celebrates another Amsoil Cup win.

“I won at the 40th and now the 45th,” LeDuc said on the podium. “To put on a good show we put a big bullet in it and I held it wide open.”

LeDuc heads home with a stack of big checks, a Henry Rifle and once more gets to drink from the coveted Amsoil Cup. For more action from the final TORC Crandon race of the season, check out the photo highlights here.
