With some racers still trying to earn a spot in this year’s 2013 King of the Hammers race, others already entered were qualifying for starting positions for Friday’s start. It was 2009 race winner Jason Scherer who posted the fastest lap time Wednesday afternoon of 3:19:07 before the sun set on Johnson Valley.

“That was super fun,” Scherer said. “The Rubicon Express Nitto car is perfect for KOH and we are ready for the race. We know the pace and the strategy. We need to win now. It’s time to execute our game plan.”

Not far behind Scherer was the only two-time winner Shannon Campbell. The third-fastest qualifier today was 3:24:96, TJ Flores was in third with a time of 3:25:82, and Robby Gordon was fourth with a time of 3:41:03.

Only 100 racers will make it into the main event Friday, with 14 Last Chance Qualifiers making Friday’s main event. Today the Smittybilt Every Man Challenge will kick off as well as the HCR King of the Hammers UTV Race. Be sure to check back with Off-Road.com for more of the race.
