2014 SCORE San Felipe 250

After an early wreck that nearly ruined his race, Lopez was able to recover to finish in fifth place.

“We rolled the truck early in the race, but even after those few turns everything looked good. While the truck was rolling I just wanted it to land on its feet again so I could keep going. We are here and that's what counts.”

Justin Matney earned the Class 1 victory.

Justin Matney earned the win in Class 1, with Damen Jefferies and Todd Romano finishing second and third, respectively.

“SCORE did an excellent job today on the course, especially with all of the weather issues we were having,” Matney said. “The course is really tough and really gnarly, but overall it was an awesome run. I can't thank my co-driver Kellon Walch enough. He did an awesome job and when I pre-run he knows all the really good lines to keep me calm and keep me focused.”

Cody Robinson and teammate Roberto Romo earned the win in Class 10 at San Felipe.

Cody Robinson finished first in Class 10.

“Everything went good. Roberto Romo started, took the first half of the race and had no problems,” Robinson said. “We were running pace with the leader. I got in and had a pretty good run until I got in Jessica McMillin's (82) dust and drove it into a rock. I got the tire changed out and made pretty good time to the finish.

The dirt bikes, ATVs and side-by-sides may have had the roughest day of all the racers. The has left the line already when the course issues were identified, mainly that the course working trying to keep the Summit bypass route open got his bulldozer and truck stuck trying to work on the course.

The bikes were stopped quite some time, as SCORE officials tried to remark the course. Eventually the racers were restarted and redirected on the highway and a new 12-mile section of course.

Ricky Brabec, Shane Esposito and Max Eddy Jr. earned the Pro Motorcycle win at San Felipe.

When all was said and done, it was the Monster Energy THR Motorsports Kawasaki team of Ricky Brabec, Shane Esposito and Max Eddy Jr. who earned the win, beating the Honda CRF450x of Colton Udall and Mark Samuels, with Udall’s brother Ian Young.

“I've never started a Mexico race and I've never finished a Mexico race before so it was pretty awesome,” Brabec said of the team’s win. “These guys are all good partners. We delivered the bike all in one piece.

Udall said his brother performed admirably, in spite of the fact that the team was only put together a month prior and teammate Samuels did not race.

“My brother had an awesome ride and he's just a fill-in guy for Mark Samuels,” Udall said. “He's really proven himself. He caught the Kawasaki guys and passed them.

Unfortunately for Udall, the course changes through a curveball during his section and he misjudged an area and it could’ve been catastrophic.

“On the new section of the course I was going too fast and went off of a cliff. I'm happy that I'm healthy and didn't break anything but I did a lot of damage to my motorcycle.”

Adolfo Arellano finished in second behind Javier Robles Jr., but the 1A quad did keep it close.

SCORE racing returns for the Imperial Valley 250 in Plaster City, April 25-27.
