Trophy Truck: BJ Baldwin
(Unlimited Production Trucks)
Race Time: 18:36:30 (47.5 mph)

BJ Baldwin faced some stiff competition during this year’s 2013. Late in the race, Rob MacCachren (who teamed up with Andy McMillin) was pressuring Baldwin down the stretch hoping for him to make a mistake, but unfortunately for MacCachren that major mistake didn’t happen. Baldwin was able to hold out for the winner after he pulled an “ironman” race by driving solo for its entirety.

“This racecourse is tight and technical and not something I'm particularly good at,” Baldwin said. “I'm better at fast roads and backing it into corners between 85 and 110 miles-per-hour. The tight, technical stuff isn't nearly as much fun as rotating the truck at very high speed. I just ground it out and I'm surprised that we are here. We had a good day.”

Pro Motorcycle (Class 22): Timmy Weigand, Colton Udall, David Kamo, Mark Samuels
(450cc or more)
Race Time: 18:29:14 (47.8 mph)

JCR Honda earned the win at the 2013 SCORE Baja 1000, marking Honda’s 17th straight win in the race. The passing of Kurt Caselli at this year’s Baja 1000 put a huge cloud over the event, but prior to his accident there was a great battle between he and the Honda team. Colton Udall, who started the race and then later hopped back on the bike to bring it near the finish, was trying to chase down Caselli to take the lead. Unfortunately Udall pushed it too hard in one section and thought he lost the race for his team.

“There is a cattle guard across the race course and I had to slow down. I've been through that cattle guard 10 times racing over the years, but this course was backwards – normally we go the other way,” Udall said. “I was holding it wide open in fifth gear and thought I know the road, [and] I think I lost focus a little bit. I slid with two wheels and smashed into the cattle guard sideways and it bent my front wheel. We had to radio back to the pit for a wheel. I stood out there for 20 minutes thinking "I'm an idiot." The wheel slammed into the concrete and turned the wheel completely sideways so the bike wouldn't roll. You can go so fast down here and you have to pace yourself. Constantly there are things reminding you not to go that fast.”

Class 7SX: Elias Hanna
(Modified, open mini trucks)
Race Time: 25:36:14 (34.7 mph)

Elias Hanna did his own ironman impression en route to his Class 7SX victory, finishing the race in 25 hours, 36 minutes and 14 seconds. “It was a long day but a flawless race,” he said. “We did a lot of homework and pre-running and that took us to the finish line. I've never seen so much silt in my life.”

Class 3: Donald Moss, Ken Moss
(Short wheelbase 4x4)
Race Time: 30:19:58 (29.1 mph)

There were only two vehicles in Class 3 this year, and the only one that finished also earned the win. The 300 truck of Donald and Ken Moss earned the win after splitting up more than 30 hours of seat time in their racecar.  “We didn't have a lot of problems but it was a really tough course,” Donald said. “We pulled some people out and we got stuck once ourselves.”

Pro Truck: Chelsea Magness, Todd Burt, Matt Robinson
(Limited production trucks)
Race Time: 28:00:05 (31.8 mph)

Only two of the five Pro Trucks finished at this year’s race. It was the 1350 truck that earned the checkered flag, with Chelsea Magness, Todd Burt and Matt Robinson sharing driving duties to take the win.
