Ken Block awarded Most Thrilling Driver at Goodwood Festival of Speed

Brooklyn, NY — The star-studded cast of characters and priceless machines were out in full effect this year at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. In addition to the Formula One cars, the mob of Moto GP bikes and every single supercar that’s graced a young boy’s wall in the form of a taped-up poster, was the Monster Energy Ford Focus with Ken Block behind the wheel. Living up to his reputation, Block delivered sideways, smoke-filled slides up the world’s fastest driveway, leaving no stretch of tarmac or lawn unmarred. For his display of blatant hoonage, Mr. Block was awarded the esteemed Veuve Clicquot award for “Most Thrilling Driver.”

“The Goodwood Festival of Speed is an amazing event,” says Block. “Its host, Lord March, is a true motorsports enthusiast and it’s quite evident to anyone who attends. The fact that he awarded me a trophy for acting like a hoon—doing donuts, ripping up the grass and throwing my WRC Ford Focus sideways—is proof alone. How could this not have the makings of the best motoring event in the world?”

Over the course of the three-day event, which is held at Lord March’s estate in West Sussex, England, Block and his Monster Energy Ford Focus RS WRC could be found either blasting up the 1.2 mile-long driveway-turned-hill-climb course with the likes of F1 champs Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button, or flinging rocks on the estate’s Forest Rally stage with a slew of Group B rally cars, and other well-known rally racers such as Kris Meeke, Jimmy McRae and Freddy Loix.

“One of the best parts of the weekend was getting to go out and play in the WRC Focus,” says Block. “Ninety-nine percent of the time I’m sitting in the Focus, my mind is set on competition. At Goodwood, I was just having a good time and putting on an exciting show for the fans, who happen to be some of the best I’ve ever encountered.”

“Ken was awesome, all weekend he stole the show, mostly sideways up the drive,” says Lord March. “Thanks to him, the gardener is going to be picking rubber out of the lawnmower blades for some time to come.”
