Now that
Project Tahoe has been grabbing LOTS of attention with it's Perma
Tech paint job we had to get back to work on this project. We now
have the protection from rock chips but we need some more light for
cruising those backroads at night. This month we will install a new
light bar from Race Car Dynamics in Jamul, California. next month
we will install some lights on our new light bar.
Race Car Dynamics has a background in competion
and offroad design and primarily manufacture high quality
suspension systems. We had seen one of their light bars at an
Off-Road show and were impressed with the simple but effective
design that would fit with our stock bumper. We ordered up a unit
for our 1998 chevy Tahoe and too match our new Perma Tech paint
job, picked the Gator Black Powder coat finish.Installation

As you will see the installation is not a
complicated process. Included with the light bar is and instruction
sheet and a pack of bolts and accessories. All items included are
detailed on the instruction sheet.
While
the installation can be accomplished by yourself it is helpful to
have a second person. The first step is to center the bar on your
bumper and mark the mounting holes on the front bumper. You will
need to mark and drill 4 holes in your front bumper. All of this
can be accomplished without removing the bumper.
With the light bar centered you can mark the 4
holes in the bumper.
Follow that up by drilling two 7/16" holes in the
face and two 3/8" holes in the top.
With the holes drilled simply repositon the light
bar and put all 4 bolts through with washers. Included are some
Neopreme washers to go between the bar and bumper if needed but we
chose to go straight to the Perma Tech. With all the bolts in place
you can tighten them up and then tapp in to place the decorative
covers.
Bolts fit down inside a mounting tube so that they
are not visable lator
Install the decorative cap over the bolt then tap
it into place with a hammer.
Summary A very simple installation and a very nice product.
(The chrome grill is definetly going to have to go.) Watch for a
PIAA light installation next month.
