Some might argue that there’s very little skill involved in the X Games Step Up competition. You basically just hold the gas and try to get as high as possible, right? Well, as this little video shows, there’s a whole lot that can go wrong just trying to make it to the bar.
With the rising popularity of Travis Pastrana’s Nitro Circus, we’re really not surprised by anything when it comes to motorcycles anymore. Or at least we weren’t. Then we stumbled across this video of five guys attempting to do a backflip on a dirt bike. Amazingly they did quite well… but we still wouldn’t suggest anyone try it. Next stop for this crew – Nitro World Games!
In front of the world’s largest stage in action sports, Sheldon Creed won his first X Games gold medal in Off-Road Truck Racing at X Games Austin. After taking home the silver medal in 2014 and becoming the youngest driver (cars & trucks) to earn an X Games medal, the seventeen year old returned to Austin, TX to finish what he started in the previous years inaugural off-road event.
After a long summer break, the 2013 GEICO AMA EnduroCross series, fueled by Monster Energy and presented by Lucas Oil will return to action on Saturday, September 21st inside the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California. The seven race 2013 championship still has five rounds remaining and KTM’s Mike Brown was on a tear before the summer break taking the wins in Las Vegas and Sacramento. He also took a win at the non AMA points paying X Games Enduro X event in Barcelona, Spain so it has been a good year so far for the likeable veteran from Tennessee. “The KTM 350 has been great for me this year and I am looking forward to competing for the championship” Brown said of his early season success.
Brown’s closest pursuer in the championship is Poland’s Taddy Blazusiak, the four time and defending EnduroCross champion that won the most recent X Games Enduro X event in Los Angeles. Blazusiak has not been nearly as dominant so far in 2013 and will be looking to reestablish his place at the top.
Johnny Campbell’s new retail business, JCR Speed Shop, has teamed with 12-time motorcycle champion Laia Sanz to battle the world’s best women racers at XGames Los Angeles. Laia will pilot a purpose-built HONDA CRF250R in the Women’s Enduro X event on Sunday, August 4th at Staples Center.
“We are excited to announce the opening of the JCR Speed Shop. We are focusing on specialized replica race bike building and prepping for sportsmen to world class athletes like World Champion, Laia Sanz. Laia is a True Champion with 12 World Trials titles and 3 Dakar Rally campaigns to her name, and most of all she is an amazing person.” — Johnny Campbell
“I m very excited to ride this XGames race on a JCR Speed Shop built Honda, and happy to be helped by Johnny Campbell a person and rider that I admire a lot, I want to say thanks all people from JCR, and Johnny s family, for their big help. We’ve been training at Colton Haaker’s track, and preparing the bike and I love it, also they help me train on the starts. Now I feel ready for the race and I hope to get a good result, I have no excuses, the bike and team is perfect.” — Laia Sanz
Poland’s Taddy Blazusiak earned his second Los Angeles X Games Enduro X gold medal in three years by riding a flawless main event. The KTM rider withstood heavy pressure first from his teammate Mike Brown and later from Colton Haaker on the Lucas Oil JCR Honda but both riders made mistakes that allowed Blazusiak to hold a narrow gap to the finish.
Brown recovered from a few small mistakes to take the silver medal and Beta’s Cody Webb rode a consistent race to take the bronze medal in his first race back from a broken foot. Haaker finished fourth and Monster Kawasaki’s Taylor Robert took fifth.
The two-night racing event will feature the top talent in off-road today, including 7 time supercross champ Ricky Johnson, desert kings Rob MacCachren and Bryce Menzies, and off-road greats Johnny Greaves, Scott Douglas, brothers Mike and Mark Jenkins, the Wildman Adrian Cenni, and young guns C.J. Greaves battling with Keegan Kincaid in the PRO Light division.
Munich, Germany – Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Taylor Robert won his first ever Enduro X Gold medal at X Games Germany. He had to survive one of the toughest Enduro X courses ever as well as outlast a tough field of International riders. In the end, Spain’s Alfredo Gomez took the Silver medal and Poland’s Taddy Blazusiak earned Bronze.
Several days of rain forced the event to be delayed by a day and the wet dirt produced an rutted course that proved to be extremely difficult, especially an uphill rock section that had all of the riders stuck or crashing at some point. Robert passed KTM’s Mike Brown on the first lap by cleanly climbing the rock uphill while Brown got stuck. But Robert also had his problems with the climb and was forced off the side of the section twice and crashed hard on the penultimate lap. The crash allowed Gomez to close to within striking distance but Robert blitzed the last lap to get the win.
“It was really hard because the mud still came up through all the dirt. Pretty much every obstacle was wet, and when they get wet, they get really slippery” Robert said.
