Ultra4-National-Championship-Off-Road-9-19-13CONGRESS, AZ: The 2013 ULTRA4 Nitto Tire National Championship race is back on at Thunder Rock Off Road Ranch in Congress, Arizona.

The race was originally cancelled in Las Vegas due to a permitting issue that caused two off road racing organizations, including ULTRA4, to cancel races the weekend of September 27th.  At the request of ULTRA4 drivers and their sponsors,  a suitable location was found for the same weekend at Thunder Rock Off Road Ranch in Congress, Arizona.

Mooneyham-ultra4-off-road-7-18-13TOOELE, UT: Driver “EZ” Rick Mooneyham is no stranger to the ULTRA4 podium.  Over the years, he’s been one of the most consistent top three finishers at the Griffin King of The Hammers Presented by Nitto Tire. However, despite all of his podium finishes, a first place trophy had proved elusive to Mooneyham; that is until last weekend’s American Rocksports Challenge held at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, UT where Mooneyham crushed the competition and claimed first place finishing nearly 45 seconds ahead of Shannon Campbell. The American Rocksports Challenge is thethird and final race in the Trail-Gear Western Regional ULTRA4 Series.

dirt-riot-gray-rock-5-7-13PLACERVILLE, CA: The second Dirt Riot Southeast Series race was hosted at Gray Rock ORV outside of Birmingham, Alabama in a lush green and brown environment where the safety orange color of Bill Baird’s Ultra4 car stood out not only in color, but in speed, taking the win by a full lap.  Earlier in the day Mod Trail winner Tim Carter and Stock Trail winner Travis Wilson raced against a field of over a dozen.  “We had a great time here at Gray Rock!  Everyone was very helpful and the spectators were a lot of fun.  We were happy to run all the races earlier in the day to be able to have open wheeling in the afternoon,” said Rich Klein, President and founder of W.E. Rock Events.  “Dirt Riot’s Pro 4×4 class is continuing to expand and grabbing the attention of the highest level racers that are looking for more seat time, practice and just plain fun!”

The course at Gray Rock ORV park had some great high speed sections at the beginning and end of each lap; in between saw a lot of elevation changes and tight, twisty tree sections.  “The rain had come on Wednesday and created some mud puddles that no matter how hard we tried, we couldn’t get to dry up,” explained Klein.  “By the end of the race, the mud puddles had expanded to at least 5 times their original size and we were glad that we didn’t use some sections that we had considered.”

Coppermines-Pro-4x4-Dirt-Riot-4-12-13PLACERVILLE, CA –  The Dirt Riot Central Series continues to draw professional racers, local 4×4 club members and UTV racers to form a 2013 series that is already heavily contested in all classes this year.  This weekend, the 2013 Dirt Riot Central Series second of three races will be at Coppermines Offroad Park on Saturday April 13th, with racing starting at 9am.  “We are excited to be back at the Coppermines Park, it always has so much to offer for the racers and spectators that we really enjoy our time there.  There was some strong weather at the beginning of the week which helped water down the track, and since it has improved to what should be mid-70’s and clear by the weekend,” said Rich Klein, President and founder of W.E. Rock Events.  “The course this year will include more of the park, and the post party on Saturday night at the onsite Red Dawg Saloon should be a ton of fun with a live band.”

Jason-Scherer-KOH-4-5-13DANVILLE, CA – Jason Scherer is excited to have this weekend’s MetalCloak Ultra4 Stampede race so close to his home and the home of Rubicon Express at Prairie City SVRA in Rancho Cordova, CA.  Split almost equally between the Bay Area and the Rubicon Trail, Prairie City will be an excellent place for Scherer’s family and friends to come and watch.  “I am really stoked to be able to sleep in my bed the night before the race, and then have all my family and friends that know I race, but have never been able to come out and watch, be able to join in on the fun,” said Jason Scherer, driver of the Rubicon Express #76 car.  “It is also the home track for Rubicon Express and then the Glen Helen race will be the home track for 4 Wheel Parts, so I have some exciting times to look forward to.”

LOOMIS, CA – The Free Ruffstuff Specialties Open Pit will be set up for the third consecutive year at the 2013 Griffin King of the Hammers.  The 8 bay capabilities will include 9 Lincoln Electric Welders and a 4×4 Torchmate Table in addition to 3 full service mobile welding trucks that can come to you anywhere.  Racers have priority, but nobody will be ignored, including those without broken vehicles who would just like a Free RuffStuff or Lincoln Electric T-shirt or koozie!  “Last year we repaired 198 different vehicles and this year we have doubled our size and added additional capabilities,” said Dan Fredrickson, owner of Ruffstuff Specialties.  “We go above and beyond for anyone, and one of the cool things that we offer is allowing you to try all the latest and greatest equipment from Lincoln Electric.  We know that most off-road guys are welders, sometimes amazingly good and sometimes not, but all can benefit from the hands on experience. If you are looking at plasma machines, there is no better time to check out the Torchmate 4×4 Table in use, and while the pressure is on to get it done right now!”

The World Extreme Rock Crawling (W.E. Rock) Series headed to the Pima Motorsports Park in Tucson, AZ for their season opener this past weekend.  Team Monster Energy/Campbell Racing would be competing in two classes, Promodified  and Unlimited. The #5az Monster Energy  promodified bug piloted by Nick Campbell and spotter Ryan Miller were on the top of their game, carefully navigating their way through each obstacle. On the 3rd course( A3) Nick had a good run scoring a 2 but needed recovery getting to the pits.  Thinking he was done due to a blown motor he would 40 the last course but was still in 1st place at the end of the day. Luck would be on his side this weekend, discovering it was not a blown motor. On day 2, Nick Campbell didn’t budge from his first place position and would go into the shoot out with a point’s lead that would put him on the podium in 1st place.

Trying to cover both classes, Promod and unlimited  15 year old Wayland Campbell drove his Promod with 40” Goodyear tires in the unlimited class.  This weekend had a lot of ups and downs for Wayland and spotter Shannon.  Although his day started off with a rollover Wayland didn’t let that get him down and finished each course.  On Sunday Wayland pulled off some amazing scores and lines but was DQ’d for exiting the wrong way. Coming up to the final run Wayland knew he had to make up some points and  carved his way through the course with only 1 reverse, having plenty of time to hit the last  bonus before the shootout. Pulling some skating tricks out of his pocket Wayland showed the Pros how to jump off the half pipe without rolling. The crowd went crazy.

Next up for Campbell Racing is the BITD-Bilek Silver State 300 – April 29-30, 2011.  Two classes, Class 1/1500 and Ultra4. For updates check out Campbell Racing on Facebook, Twitter or on our website at www.campbellent.com .
