While we’d take nothing away from the event itself, you could argue that most of the excitement of King of the Hammers takes place in the days leading up to the main race when thousands of people descend on Johnson Valley to prep and wheel prior to one of the toughest off-road races in the world. This guy is putting his Toyota Tacoma through its paces, much to the crowds delight.
While massive year-over-year increases in pickup truck sales can often be attributed to commensurate increases in incentives, as seen with the Ram P/U’s victory over the Chevrolet Silverado in September, mid-size pickup truck buyers are willing to pay big bucks.
Average transaction prices in the Toyota Tacoma-controlled midsize pickup truck segment last month, according to Kelley Blue Book, rose 6 percent compared with September 2015. That was by far the biggest increase for any segment in average transaction prices.
Mittag, 19, is subbing for the recovering Mike Johnson. The Temecula, Calif., native has been racing for six years. So far this season, he has earned five podium finishes, including two wins in the Traxxas TORC Off Road Series. In 2012, in his LOOORS ProLite debut race at Firebird Raceway, he finished third. The young racer has also competed in the M4SX Series.
June 2013 – Fresh off the 2013 SCORE International Baja 500 Class 10 win last month, Mike Johnson and Radar Tires Racing look to earn their first win of the 2013 Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) season this weekend at Miller Motorsports Park aboard the No. 31 Bronson Motorsports Toyota Tacoma sponsored by Radar Tires.
Not only does the Bronson Motorsports have new hardware from the Baja 500 win, they have a brand new Keith Stamper ProLite racing machine in their fleet this weekend at Miller Motorsports Park. The team will have both ProLite racing machines onsite and will determine which one will be the primary race chassis following the LOORRS practice sessions.
Following a rough start to the 2013 Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) season, Mike Johnson, driver of the No. 31 Bronson Motorsports Toyota Tacoma sponsored by Radar Tires, took a vacation to Costa Rica following the Las Vegas races in April. Johnson’s goal – rid himself of the monkey on his back.
Sans the monkey, Johnson returned to California, refreshed, refocused and determined to finish on the Pro Lite Unlimited class podium for Rounds Five and Six of LOORRS at Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park in Southern California.
Since luck was not on Johnson’s side in Las Vegas, the team’s secret weapon this weekend will be friends and family. The Bronson Motorsports race shop in Murietta, California, is approximately 15 miles from Lake Elsinore. Home dirt advantage should prove beneficial to the team, due to the local ties and April test session.
