LOS ANGELES—Racing with maturity, poise and consistency, Las Vegas’ B.J. Baldwin came from behind to capture the SCORE Overall and SCORE Trophy Truck season point championship for the five-race 2012 SCORE Desert Series. The final 2012 SCORE Desert Series point standings were released today by Sal Fish’s Los Angeles-based SCORE International, the world’s foremost desert racing organization.

Battling back from a rare did-not-finish in Round 2 in Laughlin after stopping to assist his father who was racing in a different truck and experienced some health issues, Baldwin, 33, won his third SCORE Trophy Truck season point championship and his first SCORE Overall point title.

Entering the season-finale at the legendary Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 in third place in his class points, Baldwin drove solo brilliantly over the brutally-rugged 1,121.55-mile course down Mexico’s majestic Baja California peninsula, to finish fair enough ahead of Las Vegas’ Rob MacCachren and Mexico’s Juan C. Lopez to add to his SCORE Trophy Truck titles as he also won in 2006 and 2008.

Charlotte, N.C. (November 21, 2012) – For the first time in his off-road career Robby Gordon watched the green flag wave on the 45 Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 from the sidelines, as fellow RPM Offroad co-driver Juan Carlos Lopez accelerated away from the starting line in the 12 position. This year’s legendary desert race saw Gordon co-driving with veteran Mexican off-road racer Juan Carlos Lopez in hopes a combined effort will capture the SCORE Trophy Truck point’s championship.

As the experienced Lopez set his sights on race marker 545, the place where Gordon would be taking over driving duties. Lopez wasted no time tracking down the trucks in front of him, quickly moving into 6 place in the trophy truck class by race marker 100, just 1 min 53 seconds behind the leader. The next 50 miles saw Lopez significantly increase the pace of the #18, moving into 2 position, just 13 seconds out of the lead.

LA PAZ, Mexico—For the second time in three years, Mexico’s father and son race team of Gus Vildosola and Gus Vildosola Jr have etched their names again on the granite history of the world’s most legendary desert race along with the team of Colton Udall/Timmy Weigand/David Kamo who added their names to motorsports history by capturing the overall 4wheel and 2wheel victories in the 1121.55-mile 45th Annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 desert race down Mexico’s mysteriously magical Baja Califonria Peninsula from Ensenada to La Paz. The season-finale of the five-race 2012 SCORE Desert Series ended Saturday.

Gustavo, 59, and Gustavo Jr, 30, of Mexicali, Mexico, repeated the history they made in this race in 2010 when they became the first Mexican national team to capture the overall title in the granddaddy of all desert racing in their No. 21, Red Bull Vildosola Racing Ford F-150. With Gustavo Jr driving large starting and finishing sections of the course and his father Gus driving a small section in the center of the course, the dedicated pair covered the exasperating course in 19 hours and 45 minutes, averaging a strong 56.79 miles per hour.

The Vildosola team also recorded the fastest time on the course for all vehicles, including motorcycles, which have recorded the fastest time in 36 of the 45-year history of the race.

LA PAZ, Mexico—As nighttime began to fall at 6:30 p.m. (Pacific Time) over Mexico’s majestic Baja California peninsula, desert racing action is heating up as 298 adventurers battle the terrain, the competition and their own endurance levels as the 45th Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 roars into the evening. Early leaders on unofficial corrected time in motorcycles is the 1x Honda team led by rider of record Colton Udall, San Clemente, Calif. and in four-wheel vehicles is the No. 97 Chevy Silverado SCORE Trophy Truck driven by Las Vegas’ B.J. Baldwin.

With the bone-jarring 1,121.55-mile course traveling on both sides of the peninsula, the granddaddy of all desert races started Thursday morning in Ensenada and will finish all the way down the peninsula in La Paz, Baja California Sur.
