Fuelled by America’s love for pickups and, arguably, the replacement of vehicles left sodden by this summer’s devastating hurricane season, U.S. truck sales rose last month to their highest level this year.

For our 2016 Mid-Size Truck Shootout, the Toyota Tacoma enters this year’s test in an all-new package. The segment truck leader for the previous 11 years gets one major update, most notably a brand-new engine. Gone is the 4.0-liter V6 engine that powered the 2015 model, as it is now replaced with an Atkinson-cycle-type 3.5L V6. The new engine is rated to produce 42 more horsepower (278 @ 6,000 rpm) than the outgoing 4.0-liter and 1 less lb.-ft. of torque (265 lb.-ft.). The Tacoma also gets fitted with a new six-speed transmission as well.

– Get ready to go where even roads fear to tread with the adrenaline-pumping TRD Pro Series from Toyota. Already favorites among serious off-roaders, the 2015 Toyota Tundra, Tacoma and 4Runner will get even more capable with these new, aggressive off-road packages designed by the experts at Toyota Racing Development (TRD).

Toyota recently announced that the Tacoma, the best-selling compact pickup truck in America, will be available with two new accessory packages for 2011. The packages are based on a concept truck at the 2009 Specialty Equipment Marketing Association (SEMA) Show, which Toyota says received an overwhelmingly positive response and led to the development of the new packages.

The new T|X and T|X Pro packages, which will be available in conjunction with the traditional TRD Off-Road Package, a will add Toyota Racing Development (TRD) accessories in a unique combination.
