SEMA-Logo-11-19-12The Specialty Equipment Marker Association recently announced the winners of the New Products Showcase Awards, which were held the opening morning of the 2013 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. The event recognizes the most cutting-edge automotive products either on the market or about to hit the market. SEMA tells us that there were more than 2,000 new products submitted for consideration for this year’s event. We’re glad we didn’t to be the judge of who gets in and who doesn’t.

According to SEMA, the criteria that ranked high on the judges’ selection for New Product Showcase Awards included superiority of innovation, technical achievement, quality and workmanship, consumer appeal and marketability. Although there are a great number of categories, we’ll focus on the ones related in any way to the off-road world.

Taking place in the outdoor patio on the south side of the LVH (adjacent to the LVCC North Hall) from 8:00 – 9:00 am each morning of the Show, Cars & Coffee gives attendees a great place to start their day.

Attendees will be able to grab a cup of coffee and a donut, check out some cool vehicles, mingle with colleagues then get a jump start on their day by visiting the newly expanded Featured Exhibitors section at the LVH. TORRANCE, Calif. — The Toyota Racing Dream Build Challenge, having already donated $50,000 to winner Kyle Busch’s charity and another $50,000 split among the other three teams’ charities, has one more big prize to give to a lucky fan: The Toyota Racing Dream Trip Grand Prize. That fan is Christina R. from Buckeye, Arizona, Toyota announced today.

Christina will receive her choice of either a NASCAR or NHRA race event experience, both of which were exclusively tailored for the Dream Build Challenge.  But she leaves little doubt what her likely choice will be.

Auburn Hills, Mich. — Just two-and-a-half weeks after Mopar® introduced the new 800 horsepower V-10 Competition Race Engine for drag racing at the 2011 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas, the off-road racing derivative of the crate engine made its debut in the 44th Tecate SCORE Baja 1000, Nov. 18–19, powering Kent Kroeker and Alan Roach to the Class 8 win in the famed event.

Kroeker, owner of Kroeker Off-Road Engineering (KORE), shared the driving duties of the Ram 1500 with the Mopar V-10 Competition Off-Road Race Engine under the hood, with Roach, who hails from Escondido, Calif. The pair covered the distance of nearly 700 miles through the rugged desert of Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula in just over 20 hours to record the Class 8 victory. Kroeker began the race and drove through the San Felipe loop, with Roach then taking the wheel for the remainder of the distance.

“What an amazing debut for the Mopar V-10 Competition Off-Road Race Engine to win at Baja,” said Pietro Gorlier, President and CEO of Mopar, Chrysler Group LLC’s service, parts and customer-care brand. “Our off-road engineers have been working very hard on this engine and it certainly passed its first test with flying colors.”

The 2011 Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 drew a total of 278 starters from 34 states and 16 different countries, in more than 30 different classes. The Class 8 division that Kroeker and Roach competed in with the Mopar V-10 Competition Off-Road Race Engine is comprised of full-size, two-wheel drive trucks.

“Winning the Baja 1000 means laser-focused excellence that can’t be demonstrated any other way,” said Kroeker. “The performance of the new Mopar V-10 was superb. We were the only vehicle in the Baja 1000 using Mopar power. Mopar engineers sculpted its characteristics around my description of what is needed to win in long-distance desert racing.”

Kroeker and his team put the Ram 1500 for Baja together in six weeks, as both the truck and the Mopar V-10 Competition Off-Road Race Engine made their competitive debut at what is considered the most grueling event in off-road racing.

Kroeker and KORE were instrumental in the development and creation of the Mopar Ram Runner, which was introduced at the 2010 Moab Jeep® Safari. The Mopar Ram Runner served as the Official Pace Truck of the Traxxas TORC (The Off-Road Championship) Series this season, where Mopar-powered Ram Truck drivers dominated, winning 27 total races and claiming the championship in all three PRO classes. With the debut of the Mopar V-10 Competition Off-Road Race Engine, the evolution of the Mopar off-road racing program continues.

The 800 horsepower Mopar V-10 Competition Off-Road Race Engine is hand assembled to exacting standards by race engine builders and features an aluminum block with aluminum cylinder heads. The Mopar V-10 Competition Engine is designed for the rigors of off-road racing and pulls 695 lb. ft. of torque with an operating range of up to 7,000 rpm. The race-calibrated engine includes a forged steel crankshaft with forged steel connecting rods and forged aluminum pistons with a compression ratio of 12.5:1. All rotating components have been balanced for maximum performance.

The 2011 SEMA Show always provides appeal to automotive enthusiasts. Unless you’re in the automotive industry, you’re not getting into the show, which is a shame because there are some of the most amazing – and sometimes ridiculous – project vehicles you’ll ever see.

In the off-road realm, there’s no denying the popularity of the JK Jeep Wrangler that could be found all over the show. But not to be outdone, a great number of trucks were featured as well, and in a wide variety of different applications. Chevy, Dodge, Ford, Toyota and Nissan were all there. Here’s a look at some of truck we caught on camera.

The 2011 SEMA Show highlights everything – and we mean everything – in the automotive aftermarket. The Las Vegas Convention Center is filled with companies displaying their newest products, meeting new clients, and highlighting their product lines to potential buyers, sellers and everyone in between.

We in the media world get an all-access pass into the SEMA Show to educate and highlight all of the things the general public doesn’t get to see. As the automotive industry learned long ago, cars and trucks seem to go hand in hand with beautiful women, and SEMA certainly has no shortage of either.

Here’s a small sample size of SEMA girls, “booth babes,” or whatever clever name you’d like to call the pretty women scattered about the show.

Riverside, CA -  After a very up and down start to the 2011 TORC season, RJ Anderson in his rookie year running the V8 Pro-Lite, was able to capture a 2nd place finish while competing for the season championship.  Anderson and his Walker Evans Racing team battled through numerous challenges in dialing-in the brand new RAM V8 Pro-Lite this year.  Despite a sharp learning curve, RJ and his team were able to compete for a championship in his rookie season, falling only 36 points short of the championship behind Andrew Caddell. The entire Walker Evans Racing team is thrilled to have come so close this fast.

Anderson edged out TORC Pro-Lite veteran Casey Currie by 13 points while compiling 3 wins, 5 Top 3 finishes, and winning 1 Oakley Bomb Award which goes to the person with the fastest lap of the round in his/her class.  Pretty good statistics for a young man whose first race ever in a V8 truck was this year at the opening round of the TORC season.  In the final rounds of the TORC season in Texas, RJ was able to capture a solid win while edging out competitors Casey Currie and CJ Greaves.  There is no doubt that RJ will become a champion as an off-road racer in the very near future.

“I couldn’t be happier about our finish this year,” Anderson said. “Of course I wanted to win the championship, and I would  be lying if I said I wasn’t a little bummed we fell short.  But overall I am really pleased with how we finished and how the team performed.  Everyone on the Walker Evans Racing team played a roll in getting our truck this far along this quickly.  I really look forward to competing with Andrew (Caddell), Casey (Currie), and CJ (Greaves)next year, and I look forward to going for the championship.”

There is no time for rest.  While Walker Evans Racing is exhibiting products at the annual SEMA show in Las Vegas, NV this week, down the street at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, RJ and the race team are setting up their pits for the weekends upcoming Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) rounds 13 & 14.  The entire staff from both the product devision and race team are on call to make this week a successful one both in business and on the track.   Walker Evans himself is on hand meeting with and talking to SEMA attendees while Randy Anderson, Brian MacLean, and others talk about the full line of Walker Evans Racing shocks & wheels.

RJ Anderson will be pulling triple duty at LOORRS this weekend competing in UTV, Super-Lite, and Pro-Lite.  RJ is determined to add to his points lead in the UTV class where he is persistently preparing to capture his first ever UTV championship.  After a solid performance at Round 11 in Suprise, AZ in the Walker Evans Racing Super-Lite, where RJ would win in convincing fashion. They would fall short of a weekend sweep after being taken out midway through the Round 12 final.  RJ is determined to get back on top of the podium this weekend as he does all he can to get himself into a position to compete for the championship in the final rounds of the season.  Since finishing up his 2nd place finish for the TORC season in Pro-Lite, all RJ can think about is getting some wins at LOORRS in his V8 Pro-Lite. This weekend RJ and team will take the track not only looking to compete but to WIN in the Pro-Lite class, showing the LOORRS faithful that he is a triple threat!
