SCORE-San-Felipe-Logo-2014-2-14-14San Felipe, Mexico — When the dust settled and the rain stopped in the elapsed-time race, Mexico’s Gus Vildsola Jr. was declared the overall and SCORE Trophy Truck winner for the second straight year at Saturday’s 28th Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 desert race. Round 1 of the five-race SCORE World Desert Championship was held on a challenging, weather-shortened 219-mile course that started and finished in San Felipe on the northern portion of Mexico’s majestic Baja California peninsula.

Originally scheduled to cover 274 miles, SCORE was forced after the race had started early Saturday morning to significantly re-route the course because an area called the summit was impassable because of the torrential rain that pelted the northern section of the race course Friday and during the night on Saturday. The race will air as a one-hour special in late April in the United States on the CBS Sports Network. With necessary penalties assessed the results were made official early Sunday morning following data tracking review by SCORE race officials.

Bryce-Menzies-X-Games-6-26-12SAN DIEGO—While winning is very important in motorsports, consistency is equally as important for those desiring to win season championships and with a pair of podium finishes, Las Vegas’ rising star of the desert Bryce Menzies has emerged as the Overall and SCORE Trophy Truck point leader in the 2013 SCORE Desert Series.  With a second place finish at the season opener at the Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 and a third place at the recent Tecate SCORE Baja 500 in Ensenada, Menzies is on the verge of winning his second SCORE season championship in the last three years.

Two years removed from his double-championship rookie season of SCORE racing in 2011, Menzies will lead the thundering herd of SCORE Trophy Trucks, the high-tech, 850-horsepower, unlimited production trucks back to Mexico for November’s season-ending 46th Annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000, the legendary granddaddy of all desert races. Over 40 SCORE Trophy Trucks are expected at the start line in Ensenada, Baja California for this year’s iconic race which will see race-week activities running from Nov. 13-17.

Menzies, who drives solo in the No. 21 Red Bull Menzies Motorsports Ford F-150 SCORE Trophy Truck, has racked up 196 points during the first two SCORE Baja races of 2013, but the star-studded class has his eight closest challengers only a total of 25 points behind him.

Jagged-X-Polaris-Off-Road-Baja-500-6-5-13Minneapolis – After Jagged X/Polaris Driver Matt Parks won the opening round of the 2013 SCORE Baja championship, at the Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250, he knew he would need to share the driving duties for the second round, the 45th Tecate SCORE Baja 500.  Parks enlisted teammate Brandon Schueler, who races in the Best In The Desert series, to not only drive, but to start the race. The strategy would pay off with the Jagged X Team winning their second straight SCORE race.

“Schueler has more UTV racing experience that anyone out there and I knew he would do a great job in Baja,” Parks said.

Schueler and his co-driver Keith Redstrom took the green flag in the No. 1932 RZR XP 4 900 and kept a steady pace through the first fuel stop but encountered a huge bottleneck at the 100 mile mark where a long line of cars were stuck in a particularly nasty section. Once through the section, Schueler took after the lead UTV. Once in second place and 230 miles into the race, Schueler handed the RZR over to Parks and co-driver Jason Spiess.
