Irvine, CA – The opening round of the 2013 GEICO AMA EnduroCross Championship, fueled by Monster Energy and presented by Lucas Oil will take place in Las Vegas this Friday, May 3rd during the Monster Energy AMA Supercross finals weekend. If you have never been to an EnduroCross, you need to get out to Las Vegas early and witness some of the most exciting racing you will ever see. The track map reveals the “usual” brutal mix of rocks, logs, sand, tractor tires, jumps, and berms that challenge the skills of the world’s best off-road motorcycle racers. Add in a water pit that makes all of the obstacles more challenging as the water gets dragged around the track and you have a recipe for crazing racing.
Bobbitt, a 3-time National Enduro Champion, is no stranger to winning. After struggling with a separated shoulder throughout the majority of last season, he is back to top form for 2011. It’s no secret that Bobbitt has revamped his training routine since last October to focus more on speed training and overall fitness. All of his hard work paid off when he captured the win at the opening round in Salley, SC.
Not only did Bobbitt win the first race, he dominated the first race. He turned the fastest time in the first three sections before having his first hiccup. “I crashed once in the fourth test which cost me some time and I ended up with the fifth fastest time,” remarked Bobbitt. Despite his crash, Bobbitt still maintained the lead after the fourth test.
The 2011 off-road racing season kicked off in Laughlin, Nevada, at the SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge. With the New Year came some new sponsors, and a few of the heavy-hitters in the trophy truck class were representing new brands this year.
Toward the end of last year, news broke just before the SEMA show that Robby Gordon had started a new energy drink company called Speed Energy. Well, his team vehicles, be it his trophy truck or his Team Hummer vehicle he raced at Dakar, are now plastered in bright-orange Speed Energy for 2011. Since his race in Dakar didn’t go as well as hoped, Gordon made the trek back to the States to race in the Laughlin Desert Challenge and posted the fastest qualifying time on Friday – and almost won the Laughlin Leap – which put him on the front row with the other fastest qualifier in BJ Baldwin. Unfortunately the weekend didn’t turn out so well (read full coverage here) for Gordon.
