Thanks to newly uncovered theatrical Hollywood-quality film footage not seen since 1968, the Baja Social Club trailer includes appearances by an incredible “who’s who” of motorsports names including James Garner, Mickey Thompson, Parnelli Jones, Bob Bondurant, Scooter Patrick and even Dave Despain.  Also included are off-road icons Robby Gordon, Rod Hall, Johnny Johnson, Larry Minor, Larry Bergquist, Lynn Chenowth and Andy DeVercelly Jr.

Their legacies will be celebrated and displayed for the public in Gallery Four within the famed National Automobile Museum – the Harrah Collection – located in Reno, Nev.  They join names synonymous with the sport including Parnelli Jones, Malcolm Smith, Steve McQueen, James Garner, Walker Evans, Rod Hall as well as many others who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes making the sport prosper and grow.

(April, 2013) – To prove the durability of its motorcycles, American Honda sent a CL72 Scrambler on a 950 mile trek through rocks, sand washes, dry lake beds, mountain passes and paved roads. Fifty years later, that 1960s run is remembered for  initiating one of the most significant off-road races for both two and four wheeled vehicles in the world—the Baja 1000.

Legendary racers Dave Ekins and Parnelli Jones will help the Petersen Automotive Museum honor Baja with a tribute dinner, one-day off road show, and summer-long exhibition: Braving Baja, 1,000 Miles to Glory, presented by American Honda Motorcycle Division.

Mark-McMillin-NORRA-4-24-13Legendary Baja racing champion and San Diego-based homebuilder Mark McMillin has been named by the National Off Road Racing Association (NORRA) as the honorary Grand Marshal for this year’s upcoming General Tire NORRA Mexican 1000.  The unique fourth annual on and off-road rally is set to kick off this Saturday, April 27th in Mexicali, Baja, Mexico and will conclude at lands-end in San Jose Del Cabo on May 1.

Mark McMillin’s Grand Marshal role places him in an elite group of previous icons of the sport and industry who have enjoyed the honor. Two-time overall champion of the original NORRA Mexican 1000 rally (1971 and 1972) and Indy 500 winner Parnelli Jones served as Grand Marshal in 2010, while original four-wheel Baja recor d holder and inventor of the fiberglass dune buggy Bruce Meyers was honored the following year. Highly popular motorsports television host and Baja enthusiast Dave Despain enjoyed his time as the General Tire NORRA Mexican 1000 Grand Marshal last year.
