THUMB-Moab-2014-New-ProductThe Easter Jeep Safari draws in Jeep enthusiasts of all sorts. Toward the end of EJS week, the tradeshow at the Spanish Trail Arena pulls together those who’ve made the trek to Moab, Utah, to mingle, share stories of the week’s trail rides, and for the aftermarket to highlight the latest and greatest off-road parts.

There are always a few over-the-top builds stationed in the surrounding parking lots to gawk at just walking into the event, but the real show is inside the vendor area, where a showcase of company project vehicles and the newest product designs are featured in booths inside and outside of the arena. While perusing the products and vehicles at the 48th Easter Jeep Safari, we came across a few new items that caught our attention.

Poison-Spyder-Logo-8-8-12December 4, 2013 • BANNING, CA — Poison Spyder JK Rocker Knockers are one of the most popular rocker protection armor products available from the aftermarket for the 2007 to current model Jeep JK Wrangler.  The rugged DOM tubular steel design, great looking removable skid plates which can be custom painted to either match or contrast with the Jeep, and unmistakable Poison Spyder styling have made the product a favorite among many Jeep enthusiasts.  Some, however, have wished the JK Rocker Knockers™ were available in a frame-mounted alternative to the traditional body-mounted design.  Poison Spyder recently announced that these customers’ wishes have come true, as a brand new frame-mounted version of the JK Rocker Knocker™ is now available through Poison Spyder and Authorized Poison Spyder Dealers.

“Some of our customers had pointed to competitors’ frame-mounted rocker protection, and asked if we could do something like that,” said Larry McRae, president of Poison Spyder.  “We looked at what was out there, but we weren’t satisfied with the way everyone else was doing it.”  McRae is referring to the typical design of using a mounting plate either bolted or welded to the side of the Jeep’s frame rail, with a simple piece of tubing extended out to the slider.  “While that concept can provide some strength to withstand side-loaded impacts, it provides little in the way of vertical strength—to withstand vertical forces like when you’re coming down off a ledge with the weight of the Jeep on the slider.”

2014 Jeep Wrangler Willys Wheeler Edition
The roots of America’s love affair with Jeep can be traced to World War II, as the one-of-a-kind vehicle dutifully served the U.S. military with its durability and ruggedness. The affinity for Jeep gained traction as the first civilian Jeep (“CJ”) vehicles – the Willys-Overland CJ-2A – reached the public in 1945. The CJ-2A, and successor CJ-3A, was immortalized for its go-anywhere capability and strictly functional amenities.

Mopar at SEMA
The Jeep Wrangler was recognized as the “Hottest 4×4-SUV” for a fourth consecutive year at the 2013 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) trade show in Las Vegas. The SEMA Award recognizes vehicle models that specialty equipment manufacturers believe are the best platforms for accessorization and that showcase the year’s coolest products.

SEMA President and CEO Chris Kersting presented the award to Pietro Gorlier, President and CEO of Mopar, Chrysler Group LLC’s service, parts and customer-care brand, at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

“Consumers are increasingly interested in customizing vehicles, so having an accessory-friendly platform is important,” said Kersting. “The Jeep Wrangler has consistently ranked Number One as the Hottest 4×4-SUV since the inception of the SEMA Award, a clear reflection of its versatility.”

Omix-ADA-1951-Willys-10-22-13Suwanee, Ga. – Omix-ADA today announced it will debut a portion of its collection of historic Jeeps at the 2013 SEMA Show in Las Vegas at the company’s Off-Road Success Center, located in the upper South Hall lobby of the Las Vegas Convention Center. Omix-ADA will display several wartime Jeeps –including three early prototypes– in conjunction with the company’s patriotic theme and live on-site build of a modern military-inspired Jeep Wrangler (JK) at this year’s show.

The Omix-ADA collection includes a variety of historically significant Jeeps, chronicling the brand’s history from pre-WWII prototypes through the modern day Wrangler JK. The three prototypes being brought to this year’s SEMA show include a Ford GP, a Bantam BRC40 and a Willys MA, all from 1941, as part of its celebration of Jeep military history.

“Our collection includes more than 20 military and civilian Jeeps built between 1941 and 2013. This is just a small sampling of the vehicles being preserved by Omix-ADA,” said Dave Logan, Product Manager at Omix-ADA. “As the American government prepared itself for war, these are the vehicles that would later prove essential in battle. The prototypes we’re bringing to SEMA were the basis for vehicles that contributed tremendously to the war effort and were involved in some of the key turning points of the war.”

Chrysler-Diffs-Cover-6-27-13-FullNORTH BRANCH, Minn. — Over the last 40 years, millions of Chrysler, AMC, and Jeep vehicles have used these differentials, propelling these high-performance vehicles to victory on the street, in drag racing, and other forms of racing. After years of use, these differentials require rebuilding, and of course aftermarket suppliers offer ring and pinion and other parts to upgrade these axles.

In this Workbench series title, the focus is on the disassembly, inspection, and step-by-step rebuild of the most popular high-performance differentials. Axles and differentials are not incredibly complex components, but there are some specific steps to follow for rebuilding, upgrading, and setting them up properly, and this book demystifies the process
and explains it in detail. A book dedicated to the Dana, Chrysler with and without Sure-Grip, and AMC axles has never been published before.

This book will also feature extensive gear and application charts, so the reader selects the correct gear ratio for a particular vehicle and application. Special coverage is therefore dedicated to ring-and-pinion gears. In addition, selecting the best aftermarket and production axle shafts is covered as well as modifying and upgrading the differential housings.

Chrysler-Group-Logo-6-4-13June 4, 2013 , Auburn Hills, Mich. – NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) has issued a recall request letter proposing that Chrysler Group recall the Jeep Grand Cherokee in model years 1993 to 2004 and the Jeep Liberty in model years 2002 to 2007 (a total of approximately 2.7 million vehicles).

Chrysler Group has been working and sharing data with the Agency on this issue since September 2010. The company does not agree with NHTSA’s conclusions and does not intend to recall the vehicles cited in the investigation. The subject vehicles are safe and are not defective.

We believe NHTSA’s initial conclusions are based on an incomplete analysis of the underlying data, and we are committed to continue working with the Agency to resolve this disagreement. “The safety of drivers and passengers has long been the first priority for Chrysler brands and that commitment remains steadfast,” said Sergio Marchionne, Chairman and CEO of Chrysler Group LLC.
