Corona, CA - This Saturday, May 19, will mark the start of the 2012 AMA/Husqvarna National Dual-Sport Series presented by FMF. The 16th annual Hanging Rock 200 is the opening round, and will provide riders a tour of the Zaleski, Ohio countryside with trails twisting through wooded forests and across grassy green meadows. The Buckeye Dual-Sporters will play host to the two-day event, and in doing so hope to welcome 300+ riders to the trail.

“We are really looking forward to this year’s event,” explained Bill Kaeppner of the Buckeye Dual-Sporters. “It will end Saturday at the Zaleski Volunteer Fire Department for a bike wash. We ask for a $10 donation from the riders, and the club will match whatever they give. It is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the fire department ($3,500 in 2011), and this year we are hoping to break the $4,000 mark!”

The festivities kick off Saturday morning as riders have the option of riding 100-miles of trail each day. Camping is available, and lunch is included with each paid entry. Bikes must be street legal in order to qualify to ride an AMA/Husqvarna National Dual-Sport event, and every Husqvarna rider who submits a photo of themselves on their bike at the event is eligible to receive a free Husky t-shirt from Husqvarna Motorcycles North America (HMNA).

Veteran off-road racer and National Off Road Racing Association (NORRA) Mexican 1000 participant Cam Thieriot has never made any bones about his fortunate and “lucky” life. But on the eve of next week’s 2012 General Tire NORRA Mexican 1000, Mr. Thieriot has announced a massive charity program designed to challenge Mexican 1000 racers, teams and industry sponsors to raise money for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Ronald McDonald House.

As part of the 2012 General Tire NORRA Mexican 1000 “Rally For Relief” effort, Thieriot has committed a $500 matching pledge for every $500 raised and donated by each team up to 100 contributions. This is roughly the number of entries expected for this year’s Rally. If these numbers are reached, the joint effort would net $100,000 in charity contributions to these two legendary children’s heath organizations.

Scheduled for April 28 – May 2, the 2012 Mexican 1000 will cover over 1,200 off-and on-road miles beginning in Mexicali, Baja, Mexico  and finishing four days later in the world-class Cabo Azul beach resort in San Jose del Cabo. Known as the “Happiest Race on Earth”  the retro-flavored Mexican 1000 rally is a unique, once-a-year, four-day competitive event that includes vintage off-road vehicles and  motorcycles, rally cars, trucks, Jeeps and a number of modern desert racecars and prerunners.

“I have to admit that when I created this whole Lucky Sperm concept it was a tongue-in- cheek joke about my life,” explained Thieriot, whose family founded the San Francisco Chronicle newspaper. “But now my focus is to help find a cure for pediatric cancer and other children’s diseases, so hopefully someday some of these kids will be “lucky sperms” in their own right. The Mexican 1000 is a perfect way for our sport to give back because I have always felt its true magic was not in being a traditional race, but in our whole community joining up each year in Baja to share something special.”

As a first step, NORRA’s Mike Pearlman pledged the first $500 donation on behalf of his staff and crew. “This is a tremendous blessing to our event, and I encourage every team to raise that $500 donation so Cam Thieriot can match it,” added Pearlman.” I challenge all our entries to call their family, friends or sponsors to help us hit that $100,000 goal.”

All of the contributions are tax deductible. Teams can make their pledges during the Rally’s Technical inspection held on Saturday, April 28th at the historic Mexicali Bullring parking lot. A special Rally for Relief table will located in the Crew and VIP sign-up tent next to the Tech inspection area.

“We are honored to recognize Tierra Del Sol Four Wheel Drive Club and the 50th Anniversary of their Desert Safari event,” said Jason Stoicevich, Director, Chrysler Group LLC’s California Business Center. “For more than over 50 years, this club has been promoting the enjoyment and protection of our natural resources, family outdoor living and responsible trail use, values that the Jeep brand has also been supporting for more than 70 years.”

INDIANAPOLIS – The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) and Husqvarna Motorcycles North America (HMNA) are pleased to announce that the legendary motorcycle brand is the title sponsor of the 2012 AMA Husqvarna National Dual Sport Trail Riding Series, the country’s leading series of off-road motorcycle recreational riding events.

Officially announced at the Dealernews International Powersports Dealer Expo in Indianapolis on Friday, Feb. 17, the sponsorship reintroduces the iconic Husqvarna brand to hundreds of thousands of AMA members.

“We are very pleased to welcome Husqvarna as the title sponsor of America’s premier dual-sport program, the AMA Husqvarna National Dual Sport Trail Riding Series,” said AMA President and CEO Rob Dingman. “Husqvarna has always enjoyed a loyal following among AMA members, and it is rapidly reasserting itself in the off-road and dual-sport marketplace. They understand what the AMA and its members are all about: fun on two wheels and a commitment to the future of our sport.”

Long respected for its storied history in American off-road racing, Husqvarna was a dominant force in AMA national-caliber competition from the 1960s through the 1980s. Reminiscent of Husky’s 1970′s glory days, 2011 was a phenomenal year for the brand, which saw retail registrations up more than 60 percent in North America.

“Sponsoring the AMA Dual Sport Series is a perfect fit for Husqvarna,” said HMNA President Kris Odwarka. “It’s a great platform for us to showcase our line of TE dual purpose motorcycles. We have the best selection of street-legal off-road bikes in the industry, and no other brand is more dedicated to the dual-sport category than Husqvarna.”

The Off Road Business Association (ORBA) will host a free Vendor Poker Walk during Contingency for the 6th running of the King of the Hammers in Johnson Valley.   Five freshman members of the trade based OHV advocate group will be hosting the poker walk. Participants may enter free of charge by visiting any one of the participating vendors booths between 10:00 am and 4:00pm on Thursday February 9th 2012. The winner will be announced at 5:00pm at the SXSPerformance.com booth #V42 in Hammertown.

Participating vendors are as follows;

RuffStuff Specialties Booth V24

SXSPerformance.com Booth V42

Trail Gear Booth V45

Poison Spider Customs V43A

Torchmate CNC Cutting Systems Booth V20.

Participants will have the opportunity to draw an additional card by making a donation to ORBA when they turn in their playing card at the SXS Performance booth. “Our goal is to raise awareness of the type of work ORBA does for OHV users through its work with lobbyists. Off-Road industry leaders apply a different perspective when dealing with legislators, and we feel that the community needs to understand that process. This interaction between ORBA membership and the end users is a great first step in bridging the gap and showing consumers the work the off-road businesses do to keep public lands public.” said ORBA President Fred Wiley.

Participants will be required to visit each of the five listed vendors to draw a single card, and then turn in the completed playing card in order to win. The player with the best poker hand will win a prize pack assembled from each of the ORBA vendors who are participating in the Poker Walk. No vehicle travel is required, and entry is limited to one per person. Donations will benefit the effort to stop the 29 Palms base expansion into Johnson Valley OHV area through Savethehammers.org.
