Minneapolis, Jan. 16, 2012 – Polaris RZRs kicked off the Best in the Desert race season in style by finishing in the top seven spots, at the THR Parker 250, in Parker, Ariz.

In the starting field of more than 20 side-by-sides, was Jagged X’s Brandon Schueler in the No. 1919 RZR XP 4 900, Jagged X’s Craig Scanlon in the No. 1931 RZR XP 4 900 and Scott Kiger’s Holz Coastal Racing No. 1934 RZR XP, all who run the Pro UTV Classfor Polaris.

Jagged X’s Schueler and Scanlon would start the two-lap, 160-mile course one, two with Schueler pulling away. The teammates would complete the first 80-mile lap in their starting positions with Cognito Motorsport’s RZR XP 4 in third and Coastal Racing in fourth. Schueler continued to pull away until an unfortunate failure would take him out of the race leaving Scanlon the lone Jagged X racer in the field to battle the RZRs of Cognito Motorsports, Coastal Racing and Kingpin Motorsports. When the dust settled, Scanlon would cross the finish line first but finish second to Kingpin Motorsports RZR XP4 due to corrected time. BITD Champions, Coastal Racing would take third. All in all, it was an impressive day for RZR claiming the top seven spots overall as well as a first place finish in the Sportsman class.

BJ Baldwin will be the fourth Trophy Truck off the line at the HDRA, Southpoint, Vegas 250. The South Point 250, January 11-13 in Las Vegas, Nevada will be the first race of the 2013 season that will count towards the World Championship of Desert Racing. The World Championship of Desert Racing consists of three rounds of racing in the U.S. at HDRA events and three rounds in Mexico racing the SCORE Desert series. The racers with the highest points totals in six races will be crowned the World Champion.

“We had a great time with the fans at the Monster Energy Supercross in Anaheim but now it’s time to race, we are ready to go,” said BJ, “I’m looking forward to racing for the World Championship of Desert Racing title. We will be racing my truck “Fedor” for this race. It favors high speed whoops and rutted turns. We will have the truck on the dyno to make some minor tuning adjustments and then do a last shakedown in the dirt. My King Shocks are dialed in so we will just be checking engine temperature and making sure everything is happy. It would have been nice to have qualifying for this race but starting fourth is ok. Our plan is to get out front early and set the pace.”

BJ just captured his fifth championship, his third in the SCORE series. He will be racing the full HDRA and SCORE series to compete for the World Championship of Desert Racing. He will also race the Mint 400 and hit the rocks at the King of the Hammers February 3-8 in Johnson Valley, California. “Winning Championships takes consistency,” says BJ, “Getting solid results early in the season is important. We aren’t racing the Southpoint 250 just to get our feet wet, we want to make the rest of the field chase us, let them try to play catch-up in the points race.”

Fort Mill, SC –  As the 2012 Best In The Desert (BITD) season came to a close at Henderson, Nevada, General Tire celebrated three class championships with members of Team GT.  For the second straight year, Jim Riley topped the points in the 6100 Class with his Azunia Tequila Ford.  Riley battled the rugged deserts of the southwest to post three wins in 2012, including a win at the coveted General Tire Mint 400.  Through it all, it was the “team” mentality that helped Riley to the class championship.

“BITD puts together a variety of tough races throughout the year, the only way to win a championship is to be consistent and never give up,” said Riley.  “As a team we focus on structure, discipline, perseverance, persistence, luck, and the TEAM.

“This was the first full year of racing in the TrophyLite R8.”  Riley continued, “As a whole we learned a lot about the new truck and its capabilities. We worked with a number of manufactures to fine tune the equipment and have been especially happy with our Currie and General Tire products.  We have also seen consistent performance from our Culhane Transmission, Mastercraft Safety products, and PCI Race radio support. I am happy that we showed up to every race and gave 100% regardless if we were able to finish or not.”
