Mercedes is gearing up to release its first pickup truck, called the X-Class, and you can watch the debut here.

We expect that the 2017 Mercedes-Benz G550 4×4² will not compete with the Jeep Wrangler JK in terms of price (as it should be far more expensive), but by the look of the supplied press photos it sure looks like it will be able to compete with it on the roughest terrain.

Motor Trend’s yearly awards are interesting to readers and can create great headlines for vehicle manufacturers, so it’s always interesting to hear that an off-road-related vehicle is up for an award. That is the case with the new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee (see the review here).

Motor Trend recently discussed that the new Jeep is in contention as Sport/Utility vehicle of the year. The all-new platform is noted in the piece as taking direct aim at vehicles such as the Mercedes-Benz M-Class as being a more capable off-road vehicle.

We stumbled across this interesting video on the Mercedes Benz You Tube page. It’s a well-produced movie pitting a Mercedes-Benz 500 ML against a thoroughbred stallion on an off-road course. There are muddy sections, a hill climb, a log crawl and even a decent-sized jump on which both man and machine compete.

It’s an interesting video, albeit a bit long, for a few reasons. For one, it’s possibly the dirtiest you’ll ever see a Mercedes (especially coming from someone who’s used to seeing nothing but soccer moms driving them to the botox clinic); two, unless you’re Jason Statham in one of the 12 Transporter movies, you’ll never see a Mercedes’ wheels this far off the ground; and three, it’s kind of funny that a BMW is used as the camera car. Just sayin’.
