Baja-Designs-Vegas-to-Reno-8-22-13San Marcos, CA – Baja Designs would like to congratulate competitors of the 2013 General Tire Vegas to Reno, with a special thanks to Team Enlightened and their chase crews.

From the lights of the Las Vegas strip to the high desert of Reno, Nevada, this year’s General Tire Vegas to Reno challenged some of the best drivers the off road racing industry has to offer. Five hundred and fifty miles across the Mojave Desert at temperatures reaching upwards of 108 degrees gave everyone a run for their money. The longest off road race in the United States, Vegas to Reno claims its fair share of casualties.

Bryce-Menzies-TORC-BFGoodrich-8-14-13Drivers on BFGoodrich Tires continued their successful run in the Traxxas TORC Series Presented by AMSOIL at the Red Bud MX track on Aug 10-11. Lucas-Oil-Logo-11-21-11We’re two-thirds of the way through the season, and in the sports like baseball and football and basketball that’s when everyone starts figuring out what so-and-so has to do to win the rushing title or what has to happen for Team A to take the championship away from Team B.

There’s no reason it shouldn’t be the same in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series presented by GEICO. We have star drivers and championship teams and just like their counterparts in the stick-and-ball sports they watch the standings and wonder if they have enough time to put together a late-season rally.

The fans want to know, too. So, as a public service, here’s a look at the standings in each class and some historical perspective on the tasks facing those trying to catch the leaders as everyone prepares for the next two rounds of racing (Rounds 11 and 12 of 15) at Wild West Motorsports Park in Sparks, Nevada, August 23-25.

“Our season has been rough,” Lovell said. “We’ve lost engines, we’ve had fires; we even broke before a race started out in the desert. Tonight is just vindication. We’ve been trying and struggling and you just get down.

BITD-12-16-11The legendary Parker “425”, the historic Mint “400” and the panoramic Silver State “300”…what better way to start the 2013 Best In The Desert season. These great venues, along with the attention Casey Folks pays to make sure everyone in every class has the best racing experience possible, are just part of what makes “The American Off-Road Racing Series” so popular. Now mix in the world’s foremost desert racers, and you have the perfect formula for the tightest, most competitive and exciting racing that has taken place the first half of the 2013 season.

Super competitive is an understatement among the Trick Truck teams so far this year. With the first three races in the books, there have been three different winners. Jason Voss claimed the victory at Parker, Bryce Menzies took the top spot at the Mint, and TJ Flores grabbed his first Trick Truck win ever at last month’s Silver State “300”. This “anyone can take it” racing has really made for a fierce battle in the class points chase as well. Currently, Jason Voss and Gary Wheyrich are tied for first, with Steve Olliges sitting in second, only 22 points behind. Scott Whipple and Troy Vest are in great position as well, and are ready to shake up the chase should anybody stumble going into the second half of the season.

Robby-Gordon-Roger-Norman-Baja-500-6-4-13Ensenada, B.C., Mexico – As near perfect weather conditions blanketed the Baja California desert, 32 trophy trucks gathered in Ensenada for the running of the prestigious 45th Annual Tecate Baja 500. This event saw Robby Gordon of Orange, Calif., back behind the wheel of his familiar SPEED Energy / Toyo Tires / MAPEI No. 77 Chevrolet Trophy Truck for the first time since dominating the Parker 425 in February.

During qualifying Thursday afternoon, Gordon raced around the 5-mile qualifying course the quickest, putting him on the overall pole to start Saturday’s 500-mile race. Shortly after taking the green flag, Gordon’s hopes of a flawless race where extinguished, when he had to ultimately test his driving skills by saving the No. 77 trophy truck from crashing violently in the wash. The SPEED Energy / Toyo Tires / MAPEI Chevrolet Trophy Truck would find itself hydroplaning and spinning around after hitting flooded water at nearly 90 MPH.
