AMA-Motocross-National-5-22-13SACRAMENTO – With a record event attendance of nearly 25,000 fans, the 45th running of the Red Bull Hangtown Motocross Classic proved to be one for the history books as the 2013 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing, kicked off in Sacramento, Calif. on Saturday. After missing an entire season in 2012 due to injury, Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto made a valiant return, sweeping both 450 Class motos atop one of the most stacked fields in the series’ recent history. Additionally, Red Bull KTM’s Ken Roczen claimed his first career 250 Class overall victory at Hangtown.

Yoshimura Suzuki’s James Stewart, who missed most of the second half of the 2012 season, made a comeback of his own by grabbing the Motorcycle-Superstore.com holeshot in Moto 1, garnering one point toward the overall championship holeshot bonus of $25,000 in the 450 Class. However, keeping the lead wasn’t an easy task as three other former 450 Class Champions and several returning contenders chased the 2008 champ early on.

Oakland, CA – Red Bull KTM Factory rider Ken Roczen took his first win of the 2013 Monster Energy Supercross West 250SX Series at the O. Co Coliseum in front of a packed Northern California crowd.

Following the pattern of the previous rounds, Roczen turned the fastest lap time in the afternoon practices and went on to take his heat win. His victory in his heat marked his fourth straight heat win so far this season.

In the main event, Roczen rounded the first corner in third position. He quickly moved around fellow KTM rider Joey Savatgy to move into second on the first lap. Shortly into the race, Roczen began to close the gap on the lead ride of Cole Seely. As they approached the finish line jump, Roczen made a mistake that caused him to land on an inside tuff block which launched him straight into the face of the finish line jump. Roczen completely came off the bike as he rolled over the jump but managed to stay in control of his bike to hop back on and maintain second position.

Delmont, PA – Red Bull KTM Factory Team rider Ken Roczen finished 2nd overall in the 250 Motocross class after earning 3-2 moto finishes at the eleventh round of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship Series held at Steel City Raceway. His teammate, Marvin Musquin, also had an impressive ride finishing 5th overall for the day.

In the first moto, Roczen leaped out to a great start sitting inside the top three at the end of the first lap. Musquin was not far behind in 5th position. The two Red Bull KTM teammates held their pace and put together two solid rides to remain in their position and earn top five finishes in the first moto. Roczen finished 3rd overall while Musquin finished 5th for the first moto.
