This is weekend was no doubt the biggest and most competitive pro-light race we have entered and a chance to prove ourselves against the best in all of short course. We were desperate to get in the invert during qualifying to get a good position for the land rush start. We barely managed that by qualifying 6th which put us right where we wanted to be.

Lovell-Off-Road-Dirt-Riot-7-10-13Colorado Springs – The Dirt Riot Mountain Series finale was held this past weekend in the scorched landscape outside of Cortez, CO. The heat and short silty course made for the most challenging racing conditions of the Dirt Riot season. Coming into the final event leading season points, team Lovell and the #1 AMSOIL / Torchmate / BFGoodrich Tires rock racer were not only looking for a win, but a championship.

While Roger Lovell claimed victory in the Colorado Springs event, he had obligations due to the fires in Colorado and was unable to make the race. This left Brad solo in the car fighting visibility on a tight and twisting course. “Qualifying on the pole was really really important in this race,” said Brad, “It was basically a drag race and there are plenty of other teams with more horsepower. I had a solid run but it was only good for a 4th place start.” Limited classes took to the track and dust plumes billowed into the air as the soft silty course got torn up.

Brad-Lovell-Pro-Light-3-19-13Denver, CO – Team Lovell unveiled the new look of their 2012 championship winning pro-light this weekend at the final round of AMSOIL Arenacross in Denver, CO where AMSOIL’s own Tyler Bowers won another season championship.

“I’m ready to get back in the drivers seat,” said Brad Lovell, “The off-season feels like a bunch of bench racing. Its time for action!” The team will head west in the coming days for 4 days of testing in Primm, NV before heading to Moab, UT for the Easter Jeep Safari.

The #1 AMSOIL Torchmate Nissan Pro-Light will be on display in Moab at the Magnaflow booth while the Lovell Brothers enjoy the sandstone with partners BFGoodrich Tires and 4 Wheel Parts. “We’re coming back to race Dirt Riot at Area BFE. It was a blast last year and we narrowly took the win over Nick Campbell. Great racing!”

Torchmate team racer Brad Lovell was named Dirt Sports Racer of the Year at an awards presentation at the Oakley world headquarters in Foothill Ranch, Calif. on Feb. 13, capping off a remarkably successful year of off-road competition for one of the most versatile drivers in off-road racing.

Lovell is coming off of the racing season of his life. He won the TORC Pro-Light series championship, the Ultra-4 Pro series championship and the Baja 1,000. He said the Dirt Sports award was the pinnacle of his racing career.

“I really do feel it is the highest award that our team could get,” said Lovell. “It’s a benchmark in my career.”

Colorado Springs, CO 2/1/13 – The Lovell Brothers are on their way to the first event in 2013 that is also the biggest rock race of the year – King of the Hammers. RENO, NEV. – The days leading up to his TORC Pro-Light Championship race in Lancaster, Calif. on Sept. 29, Brad Lovell was where he can usually be found before each short-course race – stationed at his Torchmate 4X4 CNC machine, fabricating race components to ready his Pro-Light rig for the off-road battle of its life.

The season of hard work in the garage paid off in the biggest week of Brad Lovell’s racing career, when, fresh off of being crowned Ultra-4 Pro champion, he backed it up with his first-ever TORC Pro-Light series championship at the Lancaster racetrack.

Colorado Springs, CO 10/2/12 – Brad Lovell saves little by saying “This is the biggest moment in my career!” The statement is hard to deny as Lovell Racing won their first ever TORC PRO-Light Championship only a week after capturing the Ultra 4 Pro Championship.

Lovell entered the shocking final rounds of TORC racing in Lancaster, CA with a 5-point lead over rival Andrew Caddell. The narrow course funneled the trucks through a tight left hand turn and Caddell tangled with another truck. Lovell got through cleanly and passed Caddell who was forced to the pit with a flat. As the race resumed the action took a dramatic turn. Caddell suffered mechanical damage and was forced to DNF while Lovell soon lost his brakes. “Its pretty sketchy to race without brakes. I knew I had to salvage a finish and almost piled it into the wall a couple times. It was a very intense race! I didn’t see the wreck Caddell was in but it didn’t sound good.” Lovell managed to finish 5th and collect much needed points.

Twin Peaks, CA: The 2012 Ultra4 Pro Series Championship began with the 2012 Griffin King of The Hammers and ended with the 2012 Ultra4 American Rocksports Championship last weekend in Tooele, Utah.  More than 50 drivers from 20 states competed for a chance to be named the 2012 Ultra4 Pro Series Champion. Ultimately, Ultra4 veteran and short course champion, Brad Lovell, would claim the title.

The 2012 Ultra4 Pro Series Championship consisted of three races. Each race was meant to highlight the unique characteristics and strengths of Ultra4 cars. The three races for this year’s series were: 2012 Griffin King of The Hammers, which emphasized high speed desert racing, endurance and rock crawling, Best in the Desert’s Vegas to Reno; a 500+ mile race through the Nevada desert that tested both cars and drivers endurance, and The American Rocksports Challenge which combined short course racing and rock crawling with multiple cars competing simultaneously in a series of heat races.

Colorado Springs, CO 9/6/12 – 2012 hosted an epic fall Crandon event. It is always said and its always true – nothing beats Crandon. The small town came out in droves for the yearly parade. The weather was perfect, competition stiff, and racing dramatic. Especially tight was the points race in the Pro-Light division. Brad Lovell came to conquer a 1-point deficit on leader Andrew Caddell. While he only has one race win at Crandon, Lovell is known for his speed on the track.

Brad made the first jab in qualifying setting the fast time and grabbing 2 points in the process. Caddell returned the volley by qualifying 2nd and earning a single point – the pair would line up on the grid in a season points tie. Brad added, “Our Nissan is the fastest truck at Crandon and I knew we had to make it count this weekend. The inversion of the starting grid is always a factor but we are here to score points.”

Colorado Springs, CO – The TORC banners are now coming down at Charlotte Motor Speedway but the excitement of high-flying door-banging action will not soon be forgotten. Tensions betweens teams was evident as each looked to determine where they would fit in the 2012 pecking order. Looking to prove themselves as a top team, the AMSOIL / Lovell crew had a weekend of highs and lows.

Friday qualifying was a bit of a setback for the team placing 4th and down nearly a second from the pole-sitter. “We got a lot of practice and hit the track at 100%,” said driver Brad Lovell, “I kept searching for the fast line because there was no groove worn in the track yet. I must have missed it.” Fortunately, with the starting inversion, the #44 AMSOIL / Torchmate Nissan started in position 3.

Lovell got a huge run off the start to push through the first turn to take the lead. As the rest of the pack battled Lovell sprung free and led the race for 4 laps before pushing wide in a hairpin allowing 2011 champion Andrew Caddell through. Lovell then faced pressure from CJ Greaves who put up a fight for the whole race but was unable to get enough grip to pass the BFGoodrich shod Nissan. The 2nd place finish is a strong statement from the Lovell team. “We have made substanial improvements to the truck in the past few months,” adds Brad,”It leaves a lot of time to wonder where you will end up once the season starts. We’re getting confident and know we are a podium team. Once we get confidence from that first win – watch out!”
