Fort Mill, SC –  As the 2012 Best In The Desert (BITD) season came to a close at Henderson, Nevada, General Tire celebrated three class championships with members of Team GT.  For the second straight year, Jim Riley topped the points in the 6100 Class with his Azunia Tequila Ford.  Riley battled the rugged deserts of the southwest to post three wins in 2012, including a win at the coveted General Tire Mint 400.  Through it all, it was the “team” mentality that helped Riley to the class championship.

“BITD puts together a variety of tough races throughout the year, the only way to win a championship is to be consistent and never give up,” said Riley.  “As a team we focus on structure, discipline, perseverance, persistence, luck, and the TEAM.

“This was the first full year of racing in the TrophyLite R8.”  Riley continued, “As a whole we learned a lot about the new truck and its capabilities. We worked with a number of manufactures to fine tune the equipment and have been especially happy with our Currie and General Tire products.  We have also seen consistent performance from our Culhane Transmission, Mastercraft Safety products, and PCI Race radio support. I am happy that we showed up to every race and gave 100% regardless if we were able to finish or not.”

Fort Mill, SC - General Tire’s off-road contingency of drivers descended on the Nevada desert to tackle the Canidae Tap It Silver State 300. This year’s course was fast and dusty and the competition was fierce. Just eight minutes separated the top 10 entries for the overall win with Team GT occupying three of those 10 spots. Cupertino, California-resident Jason Voss led the way for Team GT finishing fifth overall and third in class 1400. A huge victory for the stand-out driver who’s hit a patch of bad luck as of late.

“We had a good strong day of racing for the No. 35 Voss Motorsports, General Tire Trophy Truck,” said Voss following the weekend’s race. “However, so did our competition. The wind was blowing the dust off course, which created a very competitive race. We gave it all we had and came up a few minutes short for the win. The course was much faster than we anticipated and we didn’t have enough gearing to reach the top speeds that we needed.”

As for the next off-road race, Voss is confident he can continue his momentum stating, “We learned what we need to improve and took home a lot of valuable information from this race. We will be better prepared to put the No. 35 truck on top of the podium at the next race because of it. Overall it was great day of racing.”

Auburn Hills, Mich. — Just two-and-a-half weeks after Mopar® introduced the new 800 horsepower V-10 Competition Race Engine for drag racing at the 2011 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas, the off-road racing derivative of the crate engine made its debut in the 44th Tecate SCORE Baja 1000, Nov. 18–19, powering Kent Kroeker and Alan Roach to the Class 8 win in the famed event.

Kroeker, owner of Kroeker Off-Road Engineering (KORE), shared the driving duties of the Ram 1500 with the Mopar V-10 Competition Off-Road Race Engine under the hood, with Roach, who hails from Escondido, Calif. The pair covered the distance of nearly 700 miles through the rugged desert of Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula in just over 20 hours to record the Class 8 victory. Kroeker began the race and drove through the San Felipe loop, with Roach then taking the wheel for the remainder of the distance.

“What an amazing debut for the Mopar V-10 Competition Off-Road Race Engine to win at Baja,” said Pietro Gorlier, President and CEO of Mopar, Chrysler Group LLC’s service, parts and customer-care brand. “Our off-road engineers have been working very hard on this engine and it certainly passed its first test with flying colors.”

The 2011 Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 drew a total of 278 starters from 34 states and 16 different countries, in more than 30 different classes. The Class 8 division that Kroeker and Roach competed in with the Mopar V-10 Competition Off-Road Race Engine is comprised of full-size, two-wheel drive trucks.

“Winning the Baja 1000 means laser-focused excellence that can’t be demonstrated any other way,” said Kroeker. “The performance of the new Mopar V-10 was superb. We were the only vehicle in the Baja 1000 using Mopar power. Mopar engineers sculpted its characteristics around my description of what is needed to win in long-distance desert racing.”

Kroeker and his team put the Ram 1500 for Baja together in six weeks, as both the truck and the Mopar V-10 Competition Off-Road Race Engine made their competitive debut at what is considered the most grueling event in off-road racing.

Kroeker and KORE were instrumental in the development and creation of the Mopar Ram Runner, which was introduced at the 2010 Moab Jeep® Safari. The Mopar Ram Runner served as the Official Pace Truck of the Traxxas TORC (The Off-Road Championship) Series this season, where Mopar-powered Ram Truck drivers dominated, winning 27 total races and claiming the championship in all three PRO classes. With the debut of the Mopar V-10 Competition Off-Road Race Engine, the evolution of the Mopar off-road racing program continues.

The 800 horsepower Mopar V-10 Competition Off-Road Race Engine is hand assembled to exacting standards by race engine builders and features an aluminum block with aluminum cylinder heads. The Mopar V-10 Competition Engine is designed for the rigors of off-road racing and pulls 695 lb. ft. of torque with an operating range of up to 7,000 rpm. The race-calibrated engine includes a forged steel crankshaft with forged steel connecting rods and forged aluminum pistons with a compression ratio of 12.5:1. All rotating components have been balanced for maximum performance.

Baja California, Mexico – After a lengthy delay, due to a jack-knifed passenger truck towards the start line, the Class 8 division headed out for their adventure in the desert with Kent Kroeker representing General Tire (Team GT). The 2004 Baja 1000 winner maneuvered through the treacherous terrain with one goal in mind, another win. And that’s just what he did. Kroeker completed the 692-mile course without incident claiming his second Baja 1000 victory.

Baja California, Mexico – November 14, 2011. Team General Tire (Team GT) is ready to dominate the 44th annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 race. The legendary race, held on the treacherous Baja Peninsula, will begin and end in Ensenada over the course of two days (November 18-20). And with six members of Team GT entered, there’s a good chance you’ll see the red and white General Tire logo roll across the finish line in first.

Team GT will be well-represented as they storm the desert in Baja California, Mexico. Off-road champion “Ballistic” BJ Baldwin, Rick D. Just a little more than one year after Mopar debuted its Ram Runner image vehicle to much acclaim at the 2010 Moab Jeep® Safari, the brand announced today announced details of its new Ram Runner kit for off-road enthusiasts.
