FULLERTON, CA. – (Nov. 14, 2011) – There’s plenty at stake for Yokohama Tire Corporation-sponsored off-road racing husband and wife team Cameron and Heidi Steele as they head to Ensenada, Mexico for the 44th annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000, November 17-20.

Heidi, a three-time titlist, is looking to capture championship number four in the Class 6 SCORE (Southern California Off Road Enthusiasts) division. She’s in first place heading into the season-ending Baja race, having won twice this year in San Felipe. Also at stake is chance for her to earn a prestigious Toyota Milestone award, which goes to the pro car and truck drivers who finish every required mile in the five-race 2011 SCORE Desert Series. As always, San Clemente, California-based Heidi and her co-driver Rene Brugger will battle the rugged 692.82-mile course in a Ford Ranger riding on off-the-shelf Yokohama Geolandar M/T+® tires.

“We’re ready for the Baja 1000,” said Heidi. “Our Yokohama tires can definitely take on the tough terrain and help bring us home another championship.”

Cameron, a Trophy Truck class veteran, TV commentator and two-time SCORE Person of the Year, is looking for his first SCORE win of the year. At San Felipe, he powered his trademark No. 16 Geiser Brothers Chevrolet truck to a season-best fifth-place finish in the ultra-competitive Trophy Truck division, and seventh overall among all 77 racers. The 800-horsepower machine is mounted with newly developed 40-inch Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S® R tires specially engineered for extreme off-road conditions.

“The 40-inch tires are already race-tested,” said Cameron, “and they performed great. We’re definitely ready to take on Baja.”

In addition to Cameron’s #16, the Desert Assassins team will campaign a second Yokohama-shod Geiser Brothers Trophy Truck and have enlisted the help of Rick Geiser, Josh Daniels and Pat Dean to share in the driving duties between the two trucks.

“The Baja 1000 is the most prestigious and challenging off-road race in the world,” said Andrew Briggs, Yokohama’s senior manager of motorsports.  “We really like our odds this year with two Geiser Brothers Trophy Trucks, an excellent driver lineup and the 40-inch Geolandar tire. We’re also looking for Heidi and Renee to bring home another Class 6 championship.  Conquering the Baja 1000 would be a great way to close out the season.”

FULLERTON, CA. – It was an exceptional day for the Steele family and Yokohama Tire Corporation at the Tecate SCORE San Felipe Challenge of Champions, September 10, in San Felipe, Baja, California, Mexico. Husband and wife team Cameron and Heidi Steele put on a show with Yokohama’s Geolandar tires. Heidi – battling severe stomach flu – won the Class 6 division (with a lot of help from co-driver and Desert Assassins teammate Rene Brugger and his son Richie), while Cameron finished fifth in the ultra-competitive Trophy Truck division, and seventh overall among all 77 racers.

“Rene deserves all the credit for this win,” said Heidi. “I could only drive a small part of the race because I was really sick. But Rene and his son stepped-up and drove our Yokohama tire-shod Ford Ranger to victory.”

This was the second win this season in San Felipe for San Clemente, California-based Heidi Steele and San Diego’s Brugger, who won on the same challenging course in March. This time they finished the 250-mile race on their off-the-shelf Yokohama Geolandar M/T+® tires in 5:57:12.

“It worked out good for us, thanks to the Yokohama tires handling the tough terrain and guiding us to victory,” said Heidi. “We’re pretty stoked to be in the points lead heading into the Baja 1000 in November.”

Cameron Steele teamed with Rick Geiser (Phoenix) and Cody Stuart (Capistrano Beach, California), to campaign their Geiser Brothers GMC Sierra (with new, custom-made 40-inch Geolandar tires) to a season-best fifth place in 4:40:06.

“It was our first race on the 40-inch Yokohama Geolandar tires,” said Cameron, “so we kind of used this race as a little bit of a tire test. It went really good. It’s cool to be here in the top five. We always want to win but this time there was a concentrated effort on making sure that we did a good job getting ready for the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000.”

FULLERTON, CA. – (Sept. 7, 2011) – Competing in Mexico has been extremely good for Yokohama Tire Corporation-sponsored off-road racer Heidi Steele. This year alone, she’s won the San Felipe 250 in March and was third in the Baja 500. Steele can add to her Mexico mastery and pad her lead in SCORE’s Class 6 with a win in the Tecate SCORE San Felipe Challenge of Champions, September 9-11, in San Felipe, Baja, California, Mexico.

“Mexico is my favorite place to race,” said Steele, who has won two Class 6 SCORE titles and one in Class 7 on off-the-shelf Yokohama Geolandar M/T+ tires. “The races there are always especially challenging and fun.”

Steele, along with co-driver and Desert Assassins teammate Rene Brugger, know the tough terrain in San Felipe: in March they drove her customary Ford Ranger to a Class 6 win in the MasterCraft Safety Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250.

“I have a lot of confidence from the win in March, but we have to do some pre-running to decide on the best strategy,” said the San Clemente, California-based Steele. “Our preparation and equipment give us an advantage.

Steele said her Yokohama tires are vital equipment for the grueling 250-mile race. “It’s amazing that these Geolandar tires, which anyone can buy in a store, work so well. They have definitely been a major part of our success. The San Felipe course is actually tougher than Baja because it’s harder to see the rocks, so I’m glad we’re running on Yokohama tires.”

Off-road enthusiasts looking for guidance on how to choose the right tires for their trucks and SUVs have a helpful hand from off-road racers Cameron and Heidi Steele, who provide answers in Yokohama Tire Corporation’s third installment of Tire Tips. This series of short educational videos was created to help people learn more about tires, from proper maintenance to improving fuel efficiency.

The “how to choose a truck/SUV tire” video is hosted by off-road racing champions Cameron and Heidi Steele. Some might recognize Cameron from his other job as a TV commentator for X Games and other action sports event. He hosted the first two videos on the importance of  properly inflated tires and how to read the sidewall of a tire.  For the latest video he enlisted the aid of his lovely wife, Heidi, who also races off-road, to help determine the right type of wheel for your ride.
