Fort Mill, SC – Team GT member Carl Renezeder is arguably one of the most revered drivers in short course racing.  And at last weekend’s Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, he hit the century mark in the win column adding to his long list of racing achievements.  It was a moment that had been years in the making through thousands of hours of hard work and the kind of determination, tenacity and dedication it takes to make champions.

“To see Carl win his 100th career short course race was something special,” said Travis Roffler, director of marketing for General Tire.  “And to do it on General tires…that was a proud moment.  I’ve known Carl for a long time and I know the level of work he puts not only into his racing, but into every aspect of his life.  He’s a champion in every sense of the word and everyone at General Tire is proud to call him a member of our team.  We congratulate Carl and his entire team on win number 100!”

Reno, NV – Garrick Freitas and the Freitas Motorsports team had a flawless race at the Best in the Desert, Vegas to Reno (V2R) off-road race. V2R is the longest off-road race in America starting outside Las Vegas in Beatty, Nevada and finishing 534 miles north in Dayton. The race is known for tough terrain and the hot, humid, monsoon weather conditions that occur in August; neither of which had any effect on the Freitas Motorsports team. This win makes it two in a row at V2R for the Freitas Motorsports team.

With the level of competition today, all races are sprint races but that doesn’t mean a smart driver can’t use a little more brains than brawn to pull off a win. That was the case with Garrick for the most part. He qualified 24th out of 54, which put the team in a solid, mid-pack starting position on race day. He drove his Kroyer powered, Jimco Champion quickly but precisely from the start; making great time and avoiding any flat tires.  “We had no trouble at all,” said Garrick, “We drove smart in the dust until about mile 300 where we got some clean air. We then made some great runs between pit stops where the crew did a perfect job all day. Our General Tires worked flawlessly in all the different conditions we had from sand and silt to mud and rocks. When it got down to the last 100 miles we knew it was time to go for it. We had Robby Gordon closing in so we went wide open to the finish; taking the win!”

After some tough luck that tested their resolve earlier in the season, the Freitas Motorsports team has returned to the form they displayed in 2011 when they nearly won the BITD, Class 1500 Championship. The overall victory sends a message to the rest of the field and puts them solidly behind Robby Gordon going into the last two races of the BITD series. “That was the most fun I’ve had in the race car this year,” says Garrick, “It wouldn’t have been possible without my entire crew, my co-drivers Steve Shahan, Trevor Freita and sponsors. All the hard work we’ve put in is starting to pay off, we can’t wait for the Bluewater Desert Challenge October 12-14 in Parker, Arizona.” For more details see www.bitd.com

Fort Mill, SC – May 22, 2012. With temperatures pushing triple-digits, the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) descended upon Surprise, Arizona and Speedworld Park for rounds five and six this past weekend. Team GT member Ryan Hagy posted back-to-back podiums finishing second and third in his No. 5 Valli Construction/Rockstar truck while Dawson Kirchner also posted a podium in Super Lite. Sporting a special G.I. Joe: Retaliation paint scheme, Carl Renezeder ran up front and posted one podium on the weekend while Casey Currie put his No. 2 Monster Energy/General Tire Nissan on the podium twice in Pro Lite Unlimited.

During round five action on Saturday, Hagy came from fourth to second to post his first podium of the weekend in Super Lite competition. Kirchner followed Hagy in a close third in the No. 18 General Tire/Method Racing Wheels truck. Hagy was hot on the heels of the leader during Sunday’s showdown but some close competition and a few cautions forced Hagy to settle for third giving him back-to-back podiums on the weekend.

“The competition was tough as a few of the top driver’s raced in multiple classes giving them more track time,” said Hagy following this weekend’s event. As for his championship hopes, Hagy said, “Well the first few rounds were tough for me as I had major mechanical issues which left me with bad finishes but after this weekend its put me back in the top three for points. So if I can continue to be consistent than I feel that I am a contender.”

Then on Saturday, fans will be in for a gnarly race as Team GT tackles the grueling terrain of the South Las Vegas desert for their chance at becoming the 2012 General Tire Mint 400 champion. After finishing third in the overall last year, Mikey Childress is ready to tackle the Mint once again. We sat down with the General Tire driver, and 2011 Mint 400 Class 1 winner,q to find out how teams prepare for a race that can’t be pre-run and here’s what he had to say:

Baja California, Mexico – After a lengthy delay, due to a jack-knifed passenger truck towards the start line, the Class 8 division headed out for their adventure in the desert with Kent Kroeker representing General Tire (Team GT). The 2004 Baja 1000 winner maneuvered through the treacherous terrain with one goal in mind, another win. And that’s just what he did. Kroeker completed the 692-mile course without incident claiming his second Baja 1000 victory.

“It’s great to see General Tire get two wins at the Baja 1000,” said Travis Roffler, marketing director, General Tire. “Kent is an excellent representative for General Tire and we couldn’t be happier to see him on top of the podium.”

“This is just awesome,” said Kroeker following the race. “To win the Baja 1000 once is amazing but to win it a second time is awesome. The KORE team prepared a great truck for me and my General tires held up great. I couldn’t have asked for anything more. I have to thank everyone that helped me get here today. This is a fantastic day!”

Baja California, Mexico – In a grueling battle to the end, General Tire’s Team GT member Justin Davis won the Class 1 division of the 44th annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000. At just 18 years of age Davis becomes the youngest driver in history to win the Baja 1000. Without hesitations Davis completed the entire 692.82-mile course by himself chalking up win number three in Class 1 of his 2011 SCORE season. The Baja win also garnered him the title of 2011 SCORE Class 1 champion. “This is so exciting for General Tire,” said Travis Roffler, marketing director, General Tire. “Justin was an iron man out there and we couldn’t be more proud of him. To be the youngest Baja 1000 winner and the youngest SCORE championship winner is just amazing.”

“I’m speechless right now,” said the young Davis immediately following the race. “This is definitely the hardest thing I’ve done but I couldn’t have done it without the help of my family and this great team. My General Tires were awesome out there and everything went as smoothly as it could have. I want to thank all the sponsors that have supported me this year. It feels good to win both the Baja 1000 and the SCORE championship.”
