GILBERT, AZ: The Arizona Short Course Championship and Lucas Oil Regional Off-Road Series Arizona presented by ADS Shocks kicked off the 6 round season with over 100 racers at the Firebird International Raceway in Phoenix, AZ.  With Monster Truck Rides, Freestyle Motocross Exhibitions, Off-Road Vendors and 20 green flag races, there was no lack of entertainment for the over 1500 spectators.  “We always enjoy the first race of the season, getting to see the new racers join the group and previous racers coming back with improved cars,” said Tim Jones, President of the ASCC/ Lucas Oil Regional Off-Road Series Arizona.  “We had some great races out on the Lucas Oil course here at Firebird.  There will be some real strong competition all year long.”

Saturday the track was open for regional and national practice bringing out some of the biggest names in LOORRS racing.  Some stayed for Sunday’s race including Drew Britt who won the Pro2 Class and Jacob Pearsons who finished 3rd in the Open Pro Class.  Sheldon Creed took the Kary Environmental Checker Flag in the Open Pro Class, in front of other Saturday drivers Kyle Hart, Marty Hart’s son and Wayland Campbell, Shannon Campbell’s son.

It is said that one of the most famous races in the world is limited to 33 entries. That of course is the Indy 500. Well, one of the most famous off-road desert races in the world also has a limited entry. That being The Mint 400, “The Great American Off-Road Race” which is limited to just over 300 entries. What these two legendary events share in common is the prestige of just having the opportunity to be included and compete against the best and fastest racers in the world.

The premier 800-plus horsepower Trick Truck field includes the likes of BJ Baldwin, Steve Sourapas, Rob MacCachren, Cameron Steele, Steve Olliges, John Swift, Adam Householder, Tim & Troy Herbst, Jason & Rich Voss, Kevin McGillivray, Chad Ragland, Marc Ewing, Rick Geiser, Rick D Johnson, Jerry Zaiden, Jerry Whelchel, Mark & Gary Weyhrich and so many more.

The fast and nimble Class 1500 unlimited buggy entries include Clyde Stacy, Robby Gordon, Dale Dondel, Chuck Hovey, Adam Pfankuch, Sam Berri, Ray Griffith, Mike Childress, Shelby Reid, Harley Letner, Garrick Freitas, Kory Halopoff, Pat Dean, TJ Flores, Justin Lofton, Todd Tuls and the list goes on.

For 2012, The Mint 400 field is now complete and the racers fortunate enough to be part of it are ready to take on the challenge of a lifetime. It will get started Thursday morning, March 22nd when 35 Trick Trucks and 50 open Class 1500 buggies get set to go head to head at the Times Trials for a shot at the coveted “Team Ford” pole award and the $1000 in bonus cash from Steve Olliges of Team Ford Lincoln that goes along with it. In a new twist this year, the Class 1100 limited displacement buggies will also have a shot at their own Times Trials that will determine their overall starting order along with a $1000 cash award for the fastest qualifier generously sponsored by Banning Motorsports and Drake Supply Company.

Contingency and tech inspection kicks off Friday, March 23rd from 8:30 AM until 7:30 PM on Fremont St. for the Fremont Street Experience. Race fans will have the chance to get up close to the race vehicles and drivers as well as check out all the awesome products on display as they weave their way down the street lined with hundreds of race related manufacturers and vendors. This spectacular event is made possible through the sponsorship of the entire Downtown Las Vegas/Fremont Street Group.

Mad Media and the Martelli brothers are coproducing the Mint 400 along with Best In The Desert. “We’ve expanded the reach of The Mint for 2012 dramatically by increasing the coverage with our TV partner FUEL TV and by partnering with Race-Dezert.com for live tracking and web coverage during the race,” said Joshua Martelli.  “We’ve also just pulled the trigger on a new Mint 400 social media package that includes Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. We will be producing a ton of new video content prior to and during the race – and distributing it through these channels to all of our fans.  We’re going to elevate The Mint 400 back to being the most important motorsports event in the world, one year at a time.”

Rob MacCachren came to Firebird International Raceway for the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) season finale looking to add a sixth win in the 15 round series.  He qualified third on Friday, putting him on the second row for Saturday’s last points race of the season. Rob Mac was out front in the ROCKSTAR Energy Drink / BFGoodrich Tires / MasterCraft Safety truck and set the fast lap for the race.  He was well on his way to yet another victory when Brian Deegan dove under MacCachren in Turn 3 late in the race and put Rob on his roof.  Deegan was black flagged for his actions and moved to the back of the pack, but the damage had been done and Rob limped around the track to finish mid-pack.  Rob Mac’s five victories in Pro2 Unlimited are more than any other competitor, but incidents like Saturday’s resulted in some uneven finishes this season that caused MacCachren to finish second in points.

MacCachren’s veteran crew worked past midnight on Saturday to prepare his truck for the $30,000 Lucas Oil Challenge Cup race on Sunday afternoon.  MacCachren started on the fifth row next to Brian Deegan in the cup race that pitted Pro2 Unlimited and Pro4 Unlimited trucks against each other for a 25 truck battle royal.  Rob has significant cup experience with three Borg Warner Cup titles to his credit, so he patiently stayed out of the fracas while trucks flipped and disintegrated around him.  Late in the race he was looking to strike when hard contact from Jeff Geiser put Rob Mac’s truck into limp mode.  He coaxed the injured steed around the track to finish out of the money in seventh place.

The off-season for Rob MacCachren is short as he prepares for the SCORE International season opener in Laughlin, Nevada on January 15th, where he will drive the No. 20 ROCKSTAR Energy Drink / MasterCraft Safety / BFGoodrich Tires Jimco Trophy Truck.  Rob will also be back for the full 2012 LOORRS season, where he has a score to settle with some of his Pro2 Unlimited competitors.   For the latest Rob MacCachren updates follow him on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/21RobMac.

No one gave Householder Motorsports much of a chance of winning last weekend’s Best In The Desert (BITD) Bilek Silver State 300, but that’s what makes off-road racing great. Anyone can win at any race. Adam Householder had never won a Trick Truck (BITD’s equivalent of SCORE’s Trophy Truck class) race and qualified 28th at the Silver State 300.  Despite the odds, Householder never let his confidence waiver.  “Qualifying was really tight, we were only 18 seconds back but that was enough to push us back to 28th.” Householder explained.  “We ran conservative in qualifying and saved our best for the race.”
Living up to the statement, Householder ran a flawless race to stun the racing community and prevail in a crowded field of 22 Trick Trucks, beating the heavily favored BJ Baldwin by less than a minute.  “This win was sweet for us, it was definitely long overdue,” an enthused Adam Householder explained after the race.  “We just ran our race, we rarely passed people under power but we never stopped.  We just tried to avoid mistakes. We had zero issues today, no flats from our BFGoodrich tires; the only time we pitted was for fuel.”

Las Vegas, Nevada Tuesday, April 26, 2011: Casey Folks announced today that more than 225 racers have already signed up to challenge the Bilek Racing Silver State 300. This record setting entry is featuring some big numbers in several classes. Two of the fastest classes have 61 entries: 24 800+ Horsepower Trick Trucks, 27 Class 1500 unlimited buggies and an incredible 35 Class 4400 Ultra 4 rigs.

Whos racing? The fastest, most prestigious list of racing names in off-road competition! The Trick Trucks include names like defending class champ B.J. Baldwin, Parker 425 winner Jesse Jones, Chad Ragland, Greg Nunley, Ed Stout, Adam Householder, John Swift, Steve Olliges, Shawn & Steve Croll, Jason Voss, Steve Sourapas, Rick Geiser, Ron Whitton, Marc Ewing, Rick D. Johnson, Jerry Zaiden, Mark & Gary Weyhrich, Scott Whipple. Class 1500 features names like Chris Kemp, Chuck Hovey, Sam Berri, Todd Jergensen, Shannon Campbell, Steve Appleton, Mike Childress, Mike Bilek, Pat Dean, T.J. Flores.

This race also features the largest field of Class 4400 Ultra 4 racers to ever enter a Best in the Desert event. Ultra 4 racers from across the United States and Canada are coming to Las Vegas to take on the challenging Silver State 300 course as they attempt to qualify for the 2012 King of the Hammers event.

The Silver State 300 course starts at an elevation of 3500 feet and climbs as high as 7400 feet as it winds its way across some of the roughest and most beautiful terrain eastern Nevada has to offer. Many races have stated that it is this extremely challenging course and perfect time of year that has made this race so attractive to them and their competitors.

Folks was quoted, As I have always said, there is no race like a Best in the Desert event. At last years Bilek Racing Silver State 300 only 94 seconds separated the winner and 2nd place; and just 7 minutes was the gap between the top 7 finishers. With this many extremely fast and professional racers signed up – the 2011 Bilek Silver State 300 will be one for the record books. Plus with temperatures in the low 60s and partly cloudy predicted for race day – its going to be another great race!

Time Trials for Classes 1400 and 1500 along with a shot at the Team Ford Pole Award will be held Thursday, April 27th. The qualifying order will be announced and the $1000 Pole Award will be presented 7 PM Thursday evening at Camachos Cantina inside the Aliante Station Hotel & Casino.

Registration, Tech Inspection and Contingency will be held on Friday, April 29, at the Aliante Station Hotel & Casino in North Las Vegas, and the race will take place on Saturday, April 30! The start line is in Alamo, Nevada and the finish line will be about 20 miles south of the Alamo area. The race is a single loop consisting 303 miles. Remember, life is short, you need to live your life to the fullest each day and grasp all of the excitement and the challenges live has to offer. Dont miss out racing and experiencing a great course and seeing what this part of Nevada has to offer.
