LOS ANGELES—Moving out from the shadow of his father and his uncle’s experienced tracks, Southern California desert racer Cody Parkhouse has assumed the SCORE overall and unlimited Class 1 point lead after the first two rounds of the five-race 2012 SCORE Desert Series.  With the season’s last three races all to be run in Baja, Mexico, Cody Parkhouse, 24 of Long Beach, Calif., opened the season at the SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge in mid-January by finishing second in the first round and winning the second in a Chevy-powered Jimco open-wheeled desert race car the following day.

A second-generation desert racer and the youngest of the three Parkhouse racers, Cody Parkhouse has 103 season points to help launch the 39th season of Sal Fish’s SCORE Desert Series, the world’s foremost desert racing series.

With Mexico’s Juan C. Lopez finishing second in both Laughlin races in the No. 18 RPM Off-Road Chevy Silverado to lead the featuring SCORE Trophy Truck division points, RPM leads the point standings in seven classes after the first two races of the five-race 2012 SCORE Desert Series. LOS ANGELES—While Southern California desert racer Cameron Steele received the first qualifying spot in the featured SCORE Trophy Truck division, SoCal’s Damen Jefferies got a nice New Year’s gift as he received the first starting slot in the unlimited Class 1 in Monday’s drawing for starting positions for the upcoming 18th Annual SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge.

Launching into its 39th year as the World’s Foremost Desert Racing Organization in 2012, Sal Fish’s SCORE International will hold the first major motorsports events of the year in the United States.

For the first time in the history of the event, each day of the two-day Laughlin event (Jan. 14, Jan. 15) will be separate race events for purposes of championship points, prize money and trophies.

LOS ANGELES—Las Vegas’ all-America desert racer Rob MacCachren has drawn the first starting position, based on Saturday’s computerized drawing, for next month’s inaugural Tecate SCORE San Felipe Challenge of Champions.  Round 4 of the five-race 2011 SCORE Desert Series will be held Sept. 9-11 in San Felipe, Baja, California, Mexico. The computerized drawing for starting position, by class, was held at SCORE headquarters in Los Angeles.

The race replaces the Primm 300 race that was cancelled this year because of insurmountable insurance issues.

With late entries expected up to race morning, nearly 125 entries are expected for the new race, for 17 Pro and 2 Sportsman classes for cars and trucks, that will run over the same course that was recently used for this year’s MasterCraft Safety Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 in March of just over 250 miles.

The veteran MacCachren, 46, who is a six-time all-America motorsports driver included three first team awards, has earned eight SCORE class season point championships in his sterling career and he was the overall winner in this year’s MasterCraft Safety Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 in March.  He drives the No. 20 MasterCraft Safety Racing Ford F-150 in the featured SCORE Trophy-Truck division for high-tech, 850 horsepower unlimited production trucks.  Including this year’s first San Felipe race win, MacCachren has eight career SCORE Trophy-Truck race wins.

Minneapolis–Polaris RANGER RZRs had another great showing at Best in the Desert’s Bilek Racing Silver State 300 this past weekend, in Henderson, Nevada.

Polaris Regional Sales Manager Matt Parks and his Holz Racing RANGER RZR 4 800 were victorious taking the “Pro UTV” class and the Pro Overall. The tight and technical terrain of the course mixed with some really fast areas was different than what Parks is use to racing, but when the dust cleared, he crossed the line first.

Jagged X debut their new No. 1919 RANGER RZR XP 900 desert racer and took second in the “Pro UTV” class. The car was completed only hours before the race allowing Jagged X no time for tuning or testing, so the team relied only on our past experience and knowledge to get it right the first time. The new No. 1919 worked nearly perfectly for the entire 300 mile race, with only a couple small issues, and fought hard in an epic battle with Parks at the end of the race.

The next Best in the Desert race is the Epic Racing Bluewater Gran Prix, May 13-15, in Parker, Arizona.

Parks is sponsored by Holz Racing Products, Walker Evans wheels and shocks, Maxxis Tires, Tire Balls, Kroyer racing engines, Muzzy, Pure Polaris Lubricants, Utendorfer graphics, D.W.O. race prep, UTV Underground and Valley Cycle in Bakersfield, Calif.
