Mark-McMillin-NORRA-4-24-13Legendary Baja racing champion and San Diego-based homebuilder Mark McMillin has been named by the National Off Road Racing Association (NORRA) as the honorary Grand Marshal for this year’s upcoming General Tire NORRA Mexican 1000.  The unique fourth annual on and off-road rally is set to kick off this Saturday, April 27th in Mexicali, Baja, Mexico and will conclude at lands-end in San Jose Del Cabo on May 1.

Mark McMillin’s Grand Marshal role places him in an elite group of previous icons of the sport and industry who have enjoyed the honor. Two-time overall champion of the original NORRA Mexican 1000 rally (1971 and 1972) and Indy 500 winner Parnelli Jones served as Grand Marshal in 2010, while original four-wheel Baja recor d holder and inventor of the fiberglass dune buggy Bruce Meyers was honored the following year. Highly popular motorsports television host and Baja enthusiast Dave Despain enjoyed his time as the General Tire NORRA Mexican 1000 Grand Marshal last year.

SAN DIEGO — The two youngest members of San Diego’s prominent McMillin family of racers, third-generation desert racing brothers Dan and Luke McMillin will be the featured guests Tuesday at 7 p.m. Pacific Time on Roger Norman’s Dirt Live weekly internet broadcast. Airing on www.score-international.com, the show is broadcast from the SCORE International tech shop in San Diego.

Roger Norman’s Dirt Live one-hour show is broadcast live weekly show is anchored around Norman’s two desert racing series, the SCORE Desert Series and the High Desert Racing Association as well as the new bonus points championship purse program he has developed called the World Championship of Desert Racing. Broadcast studios are located at the Norman Motorsports race shop in San Diego. All live events, this will be the seventh Dirt Live show to air.

The season opener of the 2013 SCORE Desert Series will be held March 8-10 in Mexico’s picturesque fishing village of San Felipe, located 120 miles south of the U.S. border on the East side of the Baja California peninsula along the azure waters of the tranquil Sea of Cortez. The race will herald the new chapter in SCORE history, starting the tenure of Roger Norman as the owner of the world’s foremost desert racing organization.
