Lucas-Oil-Logo-11-21-11CORONA, California – The late Vince Lombardi supposedly once told reporters after a Green Bay Packers defeat that “we didn’t lose the game, we just ran out of time.”

Several drivers in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series presented by GEICO may be saying the same thing on September 21, when two nights of racing are over and the dust has settled on the series’ second visit of the season to Las Vegas Motor Speedway, because a few of the class championships could have been decided.

There will be just one round of points racing and a maximum of 52 points available during the final event of the season, at Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park in southern California in late October. That means any driver who leaves Las Vegas with a 53-point lead in their class can start clearing space for a championship trophy.

Alumi-Craft-Crandon-9-6-13Crandon, WI – Every fall the Traxxas TORC series heads to Crandon International Off-Road Raceway for their World Championship weekend. The event is loaded with special events including a parade through the middle of Downtown Crandon. Winners on the weekend are crowned World Champions and receive a trophy, prize money and a Champions ring along with worldwide recognition. The World Championship is separate from the Traxxas TORC series season-long Championship. Alumi Craft racers won them both.

To take the Traxxas TORC season Championship in the Pro Buggy class Luke Johnson only had to take the green flag on Saturday to clinch the title. Luke started his first season in the Pro Buggy class by taking his Alumi Craft to five wins in a row. He was battling for the lead in his sixth race when he got tangled up with another car that dropped him to seventh at the finish. He bounced back from that race with another three wins in a row making it eight wins on the season.

Dave-Mason-Jr-Lucas-oil-6-28-13Tooele, UT – Alumi Craft racers have been hugely successful in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series. Geoffrey Cooley, John Fitzgerald and Bradley Morris have all stood on the podium multiple times this season. At the previous rounds 7 and 8 in Tooele, Utah, John Fitzgerald added another third place finish and Geoffrey Cooley took his second win of the season.

Alumi Craft racers standing on the podium has been a common sight in the ultra-competitive Pro Buggy class but nobody has been more successful than points leader Dave Mason. His record is just plain amazing. He has been on the podium every race this season in his Competitive Metals / Mickey Thompson Tires / Alumi Craft; eight podiums in a row. His consistent finishes have kept him at the top of the championship points standings.

The Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 brings out fans by the thousands. Americans and Mexicans set up shop at jumps and major road crossings, in the wash near the start of the race and everywhere in between. The locals love the race and the excitement and speed that comes with off-road racing, but sometimes fans take it too far.

We came across a video on Saturday that shows a fan going way too far. If nothing else, it’s an example of what not to do when watching an off-road race. This spectator positioned himself in a large rut hoping to get a cool shot of a buggy jumping over him. One buggy did jump the stupido spectator, and he survived to tell about it, but as the 1204 Class 12 car of Zak Langley comes by, the spectator has nowhere to go. Fortunately Langley avoided him and moved on, but it’s the perfect example of what not to do at an off-road racing. It’s amazing this guy didn’t get hit.
