GREENVILLE, S.C. – Armed with a performance tire portfolio designed to conquer the hard corners of road racing to the grueling desert terrain of the Baja peninsula, BFGoodrich Tires closed out its 2013 motorsports season with 20 season championships and placed drivers on their respective podiums at a higher rate than a year ago.
Using its industry leading engineering and trackside support programs, BFGoodrich unveiled new race products and an unprecedented race support program in 2013. A new DOT legal race tire, the latest 37 and 39 inch desert race tires and revolutionized customized grooving–from slick to race ready- of its Mud-Terrain KR2 for short course racing, brought continued success to those racing with the brand.
ENSENADA, MEXICO – BFGoodrich Tires, the official tire of the SCORE International desert racing series, captured four of the top five overall positions, in addition to equipping seven of the top 10 Trophy Trucks at the 46th annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000. Additionally, BFGoodrich claimed wins in 10 classes, including defending its title in the Baja Challenge Class as Team BFGoodrich’s BC2 team claimed victory by a margin of more than four hours.
Team BFGoodrich Member Rob MacCachren, paired with fellow Team BFGoodrich member Andy McMillin, placed second overall with a time of 18 hours and 45 minutes, just nine minutes behind overall race winner BJ Baldwin. In what was billed as a brutal 883 mile race course, the 2013 Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 lived up to every bit of the hype resulting in a large number of vehicles not finishing the race. Overall, the finish rate was under 50 percent due to the difficulty of the course and the 36 hour time limit. Four-wheel vehicles on BFGoodrich Tires accounted for nearly 65 percent of all finishers.
GREENVILLE, S.C. – BFGoodrich Tires announced today the 12 drivers who will make up the 2013 BFGoodrich Tires/Wide Open Excursions “Baja Challenge” (BC) race team that will compete in the 46th Annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 on Nov. 14-17.
As in previous years, BFGoodrich Tires will place several of its brand ambassadors alongside guests and a Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) National Champion to take part in the most grueling desert race on the planet. This year, BFGoodrich Tires will have two entries with a total of 12 drivers looking to defend the BC class title.
Team BFGoodrich members included in this year’s running are made up of veteran racers and automotive experts – some new to the experience and others – wily veterans.
Two young guns, armed with off road racing tires from BFGoodrich, proved their mettle through 14 rounds of the 2013 Traxxas TORC series presented by AMSOIL season to claim class championships. Team BFGoodrich member Bryce Menzies won his third straight Pro 2 title and Luke Johnson dominated the Pro Buggy class to claim his first season title.
Additionally, Team BFGoodrich member Rob MacCachren tallied seven wins this season to finish second in Pro 2 and third in Pro 4. Brad Lovell took the final race of the season in Primm, Nev. to solidify third place overall for the season in the Pro Light class.
Menzies, coming in with a sizable lead in the standings, solidified the title with his third place run on Saturday. For Luke Johnson, it was academic roughly half way through the season as he dominated the year with eight wins and clinched the title in late August in Crandon, Wisc.
Verona, WI – The hard work and the attention to detail not only resulted in another win for Dale Chestnut at Crandon International Off-Road, but his name will be forever associated with winning the Traxxas TORC Series presented by AMSOIL Classix Championship for an unprecedented fourth consecutive time. The Labor Day Weekend event at Crandon is more than just a couple races, it is truly one of the greatest spectacles in motorsports. The experience of standing on top of the podium for the final race of the year, and winning the championship will be a moment Dale Chestnut will always remember.
The weekend also saw Chestnut jump into Don Koehler’s Formula 4×4 race truck for the Friday evening B & L SAND TOYS Sportsman Trophy Race. With basically no real seat time in the truck, Chestnut completed all eight laps finishing twelfth in the twenty eight truck field.
Lena, WI – The Labor Day Weekend Crandon Off-Road World Championship wasn’t only the final weekend of racing for the TORC Stock Truck competitors, but it’s Saturday’s “Run for the Ring” that brings out record turnouts by racers as well as fans. Cory Marquardt and his McGuire’s Sports Bar/Jane Classic Touch/Todd’s Custom Graphix/Metal Storm/Andy’s Shock Repair/ATD/BFGoodrich Tire Chevy Stock Truck ran a near perfect weekend as he won his first World Championship ring on Saturday and took home the TORC Sportsman Stock Truck Championship on Sunday.
The TORC Stock Truck division is designed as a very affordable form of short-course off-road racing. The rules allow for minimal performance modifications, but the race trucks must meet the same safety requirements as the faster trucks in the TORC series. As in all TORC Sportsman classes, the great friendships between competitors is unlike any other form of motorsports.
Sheldon Creed and the OCCR crew headed North to Reno, Nevada for what is without a doubt one of the most extreme tracks that short course off-road racing has ever seen. The Wild West Motorsports Park hosted Rounds 11&12 of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series and pushed “The Prodigy” Sheldon Creed to his limits in the quest for a 2013 Pro Lite Championship.
Heading into Rounds 11&12, Sheldon Creed sat in the third place position for the Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series Championship points battle directly behind the 2012 Pro Lite Champion RJ Anderson and 2011 Points Champion Brian Deegan. Creed looked to leave his mark in Reno after a not so favorable Round 10 at Glen Helen Motorsports Park just one round ago.
After qualifying first in his group for Round 11, Creed started on the second row behind Pro Lite powerhouses Brian Deegan and Casey Currie. Shortly after the green flag dropped, Creed got tangled up with a few other trucks and was immediately set back multiple positions. Brushing off this minor setback, Sheldon regrouped and began his charge back up to the front of the pack.
Jason Voss piloted his trick truck to the overall win at the Best In The Desert “Vegas To Reno” race to capture his second desert race of 2013 and give BFGoodrich Tires its fourth Best In The Desert win of the season.
BFGoodrich Tires brought home all top 10 Trick Truck finishers and 11 of the top 12 overall finishers for another dominating run in desert racing. This season, BFGoodrich has claimed seven total desert race wins.
Voss started 12th after serving a penalty from qualifying and overcame the field of more than 50 unlimited vehicles and the grueling 550 miles in a final time of 9:13:10, more than six minutes ahead of the next finisher. His other win came earlier this year in the Best In The Desert Parker425.
BUCHANAN, Mich. — The second Pro-Light race of the weekend at RedBud MX was a bruiser with the tight racetrack forcing drivers to play a high-speed game of bumper cars as the TORC Series presented by AMSOIL completed its annual visit to southern Michigan.
In the end, defending class champion Brad Lovell managed to find the podium for the sixth time this season, pulling off a respectable third-place result in his AMSOIL/Torchmate/BFGoodrich Nissan before a boisterous Sunday afternoon crowd.
“I’m so proud to be back up here on the podium,” Lovell said. “That was a brutal race. So much banging and bumping. You just can’t avoid it on this track but today was especially hard. I took some hits today, I promise you.
