BFGoodrich Tires honored the Dusy-Ershim OHV Trail in Sanger, Calif., over the weekend as one of the 2011 Outstanding Trails. For the first time ever, fans in the off-road community were given the power to vote for their favorite off-road trail, and Dusy-Ershim came out on top. Off-road enthusiasts and members of the Four Wheel Drive Club of Fresno, Calif., were in attendance as BFGoodrich Tires presented a grant of $4,000 to the club. The grant will be used to preserve the scenic trail and continue conservation efforts for one of America’s most beautiful areas for off-roading.

Dusy-Ershim OHV Trail in the Sierra National Forest offers 33 miles of high mountain meadows, creeks, six natural lakes, unique granite mountains, cliffs and panoramic views at 10,200 feet. The trail is a major challenge for drivers, and having advanced driving skills is highly recommended. Dusy-Ershim offers the perfect escape, because it does not cross any roads or other OHV trails. It also has many foot trails, lakes and creeks that are accessible to walkers and hikers.

Located in Clark, Wyo., Morrison Trail was honored this past weekend by BFGoodrich® Tires as one of the 2011 Outstanding Trails. Off-road enthusiasts and members of the Magic City 4-Wheelers, Inc. were in attendance as BFGoodrich Tires presented a grant of $4,000 to the club. The grant will be used to preserve the scenic off-highway trail system and continue conservation efforts for one of America’s most beautiful areas for off-roading.

Morrison Trail, in Wyoming’s Shoshone National Forest, offers various types of terrain including arid canyons, alpine forests, high mountain meadows and small lakes at 10,000 feet. Hitting the trail shortly after it opens in mid-July is a gift as off-road enthusiasts will have the pleasure of experiencing a carpet of beautiful wildflowers in the meadows. The panoramic views from almost every part of the trail are breathtaking and inspiring.

Racing Pikes Peak is not something to be taken lightly. The utterly unforgiving nature of the road is clear to anyone who has driven it. In lieu of gravel traps, dense trees and sheer drop-offs line the course. It is not a race where you can push past the limit.

After a grueling 1300mi road trip from Crandon, WI from the Traxxas TORC Series and all-night prep job on the #44 AMSOIL Nissan Pro-Light, the brothers made it to tech inspection. A milestone in itself, tech inspection marks the beginning of three days of practice and Fan Fest, all of which culminate into race day on Sunday.

While Brad was returning for his second year, this was Roger’s rookie year on the peak. Sporting his familiar #4432 AMSOIL Ultra 4, Roger joined a class of six rock racers. Practice went well for the team as they tuned the trucks and worked through mechanical gremlins.

As the sun rose Sunday morning, the largest field in recent history lined up to battle the mountain. Roger took the green flag two vehicles ahead of Brad. Unfortunately, fate was not kind and several miles into the lower section, he missed an apex and experienced a disastrous roll. While the vehicle is likely a total loss, Roger walked away with only bumps and bruises. “It was a terrible feeling watching the safety trucks race up the road after my brother,” recalls Brad, “After a while I got word that he was alright but it left me with a lot to think about as I waited for my chance at the hill.”

Brad regained his focus and raced past the battered vehicle. Precision was key as the Nissan roared up the hill. Brad took the checkers with a time of 12:33 (2nd in Pikes Peak Open) which is nearly 45 seconds faster than his rookie attempt. “I was really pleased with my performance but it was a long day at 14,000 ft wondering about my brother. Our team, family, and friends did a tremendous job getting me from the podium at Crandon to the podium on Pikes Peak. I’m proud to get a strong finish for AMSOIL, BFG, Nissan, and all our sponsors.”

While #4432 might need a breather, both Brad and Roger will strive on in their 2011 campaign. Up next for the pair is the American Rocksports Challenge at Miller Motorsports Park in Salt Lake City, UT July 14th – 16th. Only a week later, Brad will return to TORC short course racing at the legendary Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina.

SNOQUALMIE, Wash. –  Professional athlete Shaun White is branching out from the thrill of asphalt at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and taking to the mud of Old Mill Adventure Park as he continues to upgrade his driving performance with BFGoodrich Tires in Chapter 3 of the “Upgrade to BFGoodrich” campaign. The automotive enthusiast spent time behind the wheel of a full-bore rally car at DirtFish Rally School in Snoqualmie, Wash., to learn the basics of rally driving from experts in this unique motorsport. His latest adventures will debut today in an interactive experience at www.bfgoodrichtires.com/shaunwhite.

Chapter 3 – “Rally 101”

Continuing White’s driving upgrade, the BFGoodrich Tires team put him through the paces at the DirtFish Rally School on a muddy Rally 101 course. White was instructed by two rally racing all-stars – Forest Duplessis, DirtFish Rally School chief instructor, and David Higgins, British Rally Champion and Subaru Rally Team USA member. During White’s time behind the wheel of a Vermont SportsCar-prepared Subaru race car equipped with BFGoodrich® g-Force Rally tires, he learned advanced car control, including trail braking and cornering techniques.

ENSENADA, Mexico – It will be a weekend to remember for 23-year-old Bryce Menzies, who harnessed the power of his #70 Trophy Truck with BFGoodrich® Baja T/A®KR tires and earned his first overall Tecate SCORE Baja 500 victory. Menzies’ victory gave BFGoodrich Tires its 28th Tecate SCORE Baja 500 win in 31 years and 72nd overall four-wheel SCORE Baja race win. BFGoodrich Tires claimed victory in first 7 of the 10 overall spots and 13 of the 18 car/truck/buggy classes that completed the event.

“Congratulations to all of the racers who conquered Baja on BFGoodrich tires and great job to the 13 class winners,” said Silvia Mammone, motorsports and sponsorship manager, BFGoodrich Tires. “We will celebrate alongside our winning teams tonight, but it’s back to work on Monday to prepare for our heavy schedule of desert racing including SCORE’s Las Vegas Terrible Primm 300 and of course, the legendary Tecate SCORE Baja 1000.”

Final preparations for 43rd Tecate SCORE Baja 500 are well underway. Only one day remains before the start this year’s Baja 500, and race crews and drivers worked on vehicle setups, pre-running sections of the course, and finishing up pit strategy for Saturday’s race.

We did some pre-running on the course today and crossed paths with a number of racers, including Robby Gordon and the Speed Energy Team, Armin Schwarz of All German Motorsports, Lexus racer Joe Bacal (who was probably the only racer pre-running in a Lexus LX 570), dirt bike and ATV racers and more.

On April 21, 2011, BFGoodrich Tires invited members of the off-road community to cast their votes for one of four BFGoodrich Tires’ pre-selected Outstanding Trails and clubs. Since the launch of the 2011 Outstanding Trails vote, BFGoodrich Tires encountered an issue with the voting site when “voting bots,” programs designed to cast multiple votes in milliseconds, infiltrated the site and caused an unfair voting situation.

In an effort to make the vote fair and beneficial for all four clubs, BFGoodrich Tires will eliminate all votes submitted on the voting site prior to April 26, 2011. The site will continue to offer consumers the option of voting once a day per IP address. BFGoodrich Tires has also made a contribution of $500 to each club for use at their trail.

To ensure that the clubs get as many votes as possible, BFGoodrich will extend the voting period an additional two weeks. The new voting deadline will be 11:59 p.m. (EDT) on Thursday, June 30, 2011. The Outstanding Trail that garners the most votes will be announced on Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at www.BFGoodrichTires.com.

BFGoodrich is asking for help in aiding the victims of the storms and tornadoes that traveled from Texas to New York at the end of April. Here’s the release sent out from the company today:

Hundreds of tornadoes touched down from Texas to New York April 27-28, with the worst damage in Mississippi and Alabama. Tuscaloosa, Ala., and its surrounding areas were some of the hardest hit, with a tornado cutting a 32-mile swath through the town, wiping out homes and businesses.  Since 1945, Tuscaloosa has been home to a major BFGoodrich manufacturing facility, employing more than 1,400 people and making such tires as the All-Terrain T/A®KO, Mud-Terrain T/A®KM2 and g-Force Sport.

Nearly 340 people died in the storms, more than two-thirds of those were in Alabama, with thousands more injured and without homes.  Fortunately all BFGoodrich plant employees escaped unharmed, but many of their homes, property, family and friends did not.

We need your help to restore the homes, businesses and spirit of the great city of Tuscaloosa and the state of Alabama.  Go to the BFGoodrich Tires Facebook Page now to learn about how you can help.

SPECIAL NOTE: To bring more attention to the plight of those in Tuscaloosa, BFGoodrich Tires asks that you please use the hashtag  #TUSCARE in your tweets for the remainder of the day on Thursday, May 12.  Also please feel free to spread the word via your Facebook profiles (easy share feature is available on the top of the Disaster Relief page).
