San Juan Capistrano, Calif — Preserving a significant discovery from one of Hollywood’s most iconic names, the production group behind the new film Baja Social Club today announced their acquisition of previously unseen footage from action sports legend Bruce Brown. The director of such groundbreaking films as “Endless Summer” and and “On Any Sunday,” Brown is credited with influencing generations of surfers and motorcycle riders around the world through these unique theatrical masterpieces.
(San Juan Capistrano, Calif. ) – With the successful showing of their extended Baja Social Club trailer at the recent Off-Road Expo and a new association with Hot Rod magazine now completed, The Rennsport Group today announced a new project partnership with AMSOIL, a leading manufacturer of synthetic lubricants and filter products based in Superior, Wisconsin.
Documenting the maverick pioneers that exposed Mexico’s ruggedly exotic Baja peninsula in the late 1960s via off-road motorsports, the film also follows their return to this spiritual home via today’s General Tire NORRA Mexican 1000 vintage rally. In addition to AMSOIL, Baja Social Club is presented by General Tire, with additional support by Oakley, Azunia Tequila and the National Off-Road Racing Association (NORRA).
Foothill Ranch, Calif. – After more than two years of creation, filming and overcoming several near-terminal setbacks, the production team and off-road pioneers behind the film Baja Social Club presented by General Tire enjoyed a highly successful weekend at the recent Off-Road Expo in Pomona, California.
Taking place at the historic Fairplex facility that also hosts two major NHRA race weekends, the Off-Road Expo drew a crowd of nearly 50,000 enthusiastic fans over two days, as well as a large contingent of off-road industry professionals and VIPS. The weekend included a display of historic Baja race cars as part of the Oakley/Arciero Sports sales trailer and an autograph signing for the public in the Expo’s main hall.
Following several film and live demonstration by DragonFire, Despain kicked off the film “sneak peek” portion of the evening with opening remarks followed by a short Q & A session with Executive Producer and Baja historian Marty Fiolka. This was proceeded by more questions for Wilson, Meyers and Evans, who joined Despain on stage. Film sponsor Oakley then surprised Wilson, Meyers and Evans with specially-made Baja Social Club watches presented by Despain and Oakley’s Chris Petrillo.
Almost three years in the making and supported by General Tire, Oakley and the National Off Road Racing Association (NORRA), Baja Social Club stars motorcycle legend Malcolm Smith, off-road legend Walker Evans, dune buggy inventor Bruce Meyers and inaugural NORRA Mexican 1000 winner Vic Wilson. The 60-minute documentary film is being directed by James Masters and was created by Executive Producer Marty Fiolka.
Thanks to newly uncovered theatrical Hollywood-quality film footage not seen since 1968, the Baja Social Club trailer includes appearances by an incredible “who’s who” of motorsports names including James Garner, Mickey Thompson, Parnelli Jones, Bob Bondurant, Scooter Patrick and even Dave Despain. Also included are off-road icons Robby Gordon, Rod Hall, Johnny Johnson, Larry Minor, Larry Bergquist, Lynn Chenowth and Andy DeVercelly Jr.
