KTM-Video-Off-Road-6-1-13Factory FMF KTM Offroad riders Kurt Caselli, Mike Brown, and Ivan Ramirez have been down in Baja California, Mexico, preparing for the upcoming SCORE Baja 500. The riders left the line this morning to tackle the 500.99-mile course, but a great deal of preparation went into this team – well, every team’s effort – to complete the grueling race.

This video just released by KTM shows the team getting ready for the Baja 500, giving a behind-the-scenes view of what goes into not only completing the race but also trying to win it.

Check out Off-Road.com’s preview of the motorcycle chase at this year’s 500.

BJ-Baldwin-Preview-Baja-500-5-31-13Baja California, Mexico – The Tecate SCORE Baja 500 has been a good race for BJ Baldwin. Not only does he love racing in Mexico but he has always done well at the annual 500 mile race. He has been a frequent sight on the podium and came very close to an overall win last year. After a long day nursing his wounded transmission, he finished 11 seconds behind the winner in 2012.

BJ was the first truck to qualify. “The first guy to qualify will hit every rock and bump on the course,” said BJ, “In rally racing they call it “sweeping the road.” BJ ended up qualifying in 5th place (see more on Off-Road.com’s coverage here). “It’s harder to keep track of the competition when you are out front,” says BJ, “When you are out front it’s tough to get good split times on the competition. After you go through, the crew moves to the next spot. They don’t always hang around to see how far back the others are. Sometimes it’s a radio issue. You get out of range by the time they come through. It’s better to stalk your prey than to try and outrun it.”

SCORE Officials announces today a shakeup in the overall finishers at the 2013 Mastercraft Safety Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250. After receiving a penalty for veering too far off the course (a 500-foot rule was instituted by SCORE’s Roger Norman), Bryce Menzies moved backed to second place which meant Gustavo Vildosola moved into the first-place spot for the overall victory. Finishing after Menzies in third place was last year’s winner Rob MacCachren, who moved up a spot after Juan Carlos Lopez was assessed a penalty.

In the Pro Motorcycle class, KTM-mounted Kurt Caselli was unofficially named the winner but later penalized for straying too far off course, giving the win to JCR Honda’s Timmy Weigand. Caselli moved back into second place, while Kendall Norman (who solo-ed the race) moved up into the final podium spot.
