AMA-Motocross-National-5-22-13SACRAMENTO – With a record event attendance of nearly 25,000 fans, the 45th running of the Red Bull Hangtown Motocross Classic proved to be one for the history books as the 2013 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing, kicked off in Sacramento, Calif. on Saturday. After missing an entire season in 2012 due to injury, Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto made a valiant return, sweeping both 450 Class motos atop one of the most stacked fields in the series’ recent history. Additionally, Red Bull KTM’s Ken Roczen claimed his first career 250 Class overall victory at Hangtown.

Yoshimura Suzuki’s James Stewart, who missed most of the second half of the 2012 season, made a comeback of his own by grabbing the Motorcycle-Superstore.com holeshot in Moto 1, garnering one point toward the overall championship holeshot bonus of $25,000 in the 450 Class. However, keeping the lead wasn’t an easy task as three other former 450 Class Champions and several returning contenders chased the 2008 champ early on.

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. (November 28, 2012) — MX Sports Pro Racing has announced that professional women’s motocross racing will again be featured at the 2013 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing. WMX racing will be hosted at three select rounds next summer, with the Hangtown Motocross Classic (Sacramento, Calif.), the High Point National (Mt. Morris, Pa.) and Moto-X 338 National (Southwick, Mass.) selected to compose what will be officially known as the Women’s Pro Motocross Triple Crown.

“The number of 2013 events featuring women’s pro motocross has been reduced from past years due to operational demands associated with both the live events and the television and internet broadcasts for the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship,” said Roy Janson, Director of Competition for MX Sports Pro Racing. “This limits the ability to feature women’s pro motocross as often as we did during the 2012 season. Even though there will be fewer events featuring women’s professional motocross racing, MX Sports is pleased to be able to include the competition at these three great venues.”

LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. – The 2012 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing, came to an exciting conclusion on Saturday with its return to Southern California. After 12 weekends of competition spanning all over the country, the inaugural round from Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park served as a fitting season finale, crowing a pair of National Champions at day’s end.

While Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey, of Belle Plaine, Minn., closed out the season with his 10th consecutive victory in the 450 Class, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Blake Baggett, of Grand Terrace, Calif., took center stage by winning his fifth 250 Class race of the season and securing his first career professional title. In the Women’s Motocross Championship, Team Honda Muscle Milk’s Ashley Fiolek, of St. Augustine, Fla., overcame a five-point deficit coming into the weekend to claim her fourth title in five years.

With a track that had never been raced on prior to Saturday, there was an even playing field for the riders as the gate dropped on the first 450 Class moto. As the competitors rounded the first turn, MotoConcepts Suzuki’s Mike Alessi, of Victorville, Calif., grabbed the holeshot and proceeded to open up an early lead. Dungey slotted himself in third, but made quick work of Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Tyla Rattray, of South Africa, to set his sights on the lead.
