Today, at the North American International Auto Show from Detroit, Ford introduced the all-new F-150 Raptor SuperCrew. The new Raptor SuperCrew features four full-size doors for added space and legroom for passengers in the backseat. The SuperCrew’s 145-inch wheelbase is 12 inches longer than the standard Raptor SuperCab 133-inch wheelbase.

We were already aware of a 10-speed transmission being co-developed by Ford and Chevrolet, but we had not heard of any transmission possibilities featuring more gears. Ford has announced this new 10-speed will be used in the 2015 F-150 Raptor, but could there be other transmission options for its truck line in the future?

We ask these hypothetical questions after sister site AutoGuide.com recently uncovered a new patent document published on April 9th by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office suggesting that Ford may be developing an 11-speed automatic transmission.

There’s been a lot of speculation regarding Ford’s future with the Raptor, and finally we have some answers. Ford announced the second-generation Raptor today at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan. Yes, it’s lighter that before – 500 pounds, to be exact. And yes, it also features a 3.5-liter EcoBoost motor. The only downside? It won’t be in dealers until late 2016.
