ricky-carmichael-off-road-12-23-13MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The 5th Annual Monster Energy Ricky Carmichael Daytona Amateur Supercross once again returns to Daytona International Speedway in 2014 for the biggest two-day amateur supercross event on the planet. Following Saturday night’s Daytona Supercross by Honda, amateur racing kicks off Sunday, March 9 and continues on Monday, March 10, offering classes for racers of all ages and skill levels.

“It’s hard to believe that we’re approaching our fifth year of amateur supercross on the storied grounds of Daytona International Speedway,” said Tim Cotter, director of MX Sports. “With the help of 15-Time Champion Ricky Carmichael, we’ve built a supercross track that is suitable for all ages and skill levels, while offering that historic element of competing on the same course that the best athletes in the world competed on the night before.”

With nearly 1,000 entries last year, RCSX will once again offer two full days of amateur racing-featuring longer laps and practice time, with more class options to give racers even more track-time over the course of the weekend. Due to the expansion of racing, Ricky Carmichael University will not take place in Daytona this year.

EPAlogoRecently, the NOAA and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announce the opening of a 90-day public comment period on the agencies’ proposal to disapprove the State of Oregon’s coastal nonpoint pollution control program. The two agencies have found that Oregon’s program falls short in three key areas. Under the terms of a settlement agreement, EPA and NOAA are required to make a final decision by May 15, 2014.

The settlement agreement is the result of a 2009 lawsuit filed against NOAA and the EPA by the Northwest Environmental Advocates challenging the agencies’ joint administration of the Coastal Zone Act Reauthorization Amendments (CZARA) with respect to the state’s coastal nonpoint program.

Oregon first submitted its coastal nonpoint pollution control program to the agencies in 1995. Oregon has developed a strong program in most of the areas required under CZARA. Today, only three remaining areas need additional work. These three areas are important for protecting water quality critical to aquatic species and public water supplies. The remaining critical gaps relate to water quality impacts from forestry, septic systems, and new development.
