Senator

Have a beef with the neighbors? Or are you simply paranoid about the impending zombie apocalypse? Canadian company Roshel has the solution for you.

Roshel Defence Solutions, based in Toronto, has started serial production of its recently developed and tested multi-purpose Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC), the Senator. Powered by a 6.7-liter diesel V8 making 330 horsepower and 750 lb-ft of torque, the Senator’s bulk is moved along by monster 335/80/R20 military grade run-flat tires. It is four-wheel drive, of course.

In this brute, Roshel has developed and implemented technology based on multilayer composite materials offering ballistic protection at a lighter weight. Everything relative, of course, as the machine shown here weighs … well, they’re not saying how much it weights. More than the mass of a collapsed sun, to be sure.

The Senator APC may be equipped with thermal and infrared imaging, two-way communications with a command control center, remote control weapons, and protection from chemical attacks. Owners can protect themselves and seven of their closest bodyguards family members as the Senator can seat eight.

“With our new series of vehicles, we are continuously focusing on providing our clients with future-proof solutions by further development of both hardware and software,” said Roman Shimonov, CEO of Roshel Defence Solutions. Sounds as if the company is taking into account the ability of hackers who may try to electronically wend their way into the Senator’s systems.

Roshel boasts the Senator is rated, depending on selected equipment, at a CEN B7 armor protection level. This means it should be able to endure rounds from a rifle firing armor-piercing full metal jacket bullets. Technically, it may be able to shrug off assaults from a .50 cal weapon.

Its options list reads like something from Call of Duty: gunports, electric turret, gunner seat, crowd control system, and remote control weapons can all be fitted to the Senator. Tell your buddy Chad his jacked-up Wrangler with the bull bar doesn’t seem so bad-ass anymore. Like your favorite duck blind, a camouflage mesh cover is standard equipment.

The Senator is a big brute, as you’d expect. An OG Hummer measures 184 inches long yet is completely dwarfed by the 234-inch Senator. It is, in fact, very nearly as wide as a London bus. Opting for the non-standard gun turret adds nearly two-and-a-half feet to the Senator’s height. Be sure to measure your garage first before signing on the dotted line. Height doesn’t matter when storming the enemy, of course. Just ask Napoleon.

An official public release of the vehicle will be held at AUSA Annual Meeting & Exposition on October 8-10, 2018, in  – where else? – Washington, DC. The APCs of these series are produced from start to finish at the Roshel’s manufacturing facility in Toronto, Canada.
