Toyota is making it easier to accessorize its vehicles for adventure straight from the dealership thanks to a new partnership with Yakima.

It’s almost certain that you’ve seen a Yakima roof rack or bike rack sticking off a 4Runner at some point in your life, and rather than having to order them separately, Toyota will now sell Yakima’s bike rack, ski and boat mounts, cargo boxes and roof racks from participating dealers across the country.

The price of the Yakima accessories can also be wrapped into the new-vehicle financing to allow customers to pay for them over time.

“Toyota customers have long been adventurous with active lifestyles, which makes them the perfect fit for Yakima products,” said Paul Holdridge, vice president of guest experience and retention for Toyota. “This partnership expands the locations our customers can purchase and install Yakima products, while providing them the opportunity to further personalize their vehicle purchase within our dealerships.”

The minds at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) say that 90 percent of consumers buy accessories and most of those people will purchase that bike or roof rack in the first 90 days of owning a new vehicle. So it makes a lot of sense for Toyota to cash in on this market.
