Every truck could use a few more horses, right? Well, Ram is adding some to their snazzy new 1500 pickup, though it’s probably not the ones you have in mind.

The Ram Truck brand today unveiled a special edition of its all-new 2019 Ram 1500, commemorating the 144th running of the Kentucky Derby and the fact that Ram has been the official truck of Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby for nine years.

This new Kentucky Derby Edition of the 2019 Ram 1500 is based on the brand’s top-rung Limited trim and, in a nod to the traditional garland of roses placed upon the jockey and horse that win the Kentucky Derby, the truck will feature distinctive Kentucky Derby “Run for the Roses” fender graphics.

“The Kentucky Derby has long been among America’s most cherished sporting events,” said Mike Manley, Head of Ram Brand – FCA. “The close ties between Ram trucks and the equine community have led us to the introduction of the 2019 Ram 1500 Kentucky Derby Edition.”

The launch of the Kentucky Derby Edition will also mark the introduction of Ivory White Tri-Coat paint and the first time that a body-colored appearance package will be available on the 2019 Ram 1500 Limited. Currently, color-keyed frippery on the Limited trim is, well, limited to a body-colored front bumper.

Five additional exterior colors are also available for Kentucky Derby Edition buyers to choose from including Delmonico Red (your author’s favorite), Diamond Black Crystal, Granite Crystal, Max Steel or Patriot Blue. The Ram Kentucky Derby Edition is available in 4×2 or 4×4 drivelines, with a short box Crew Cab configuration.

Keeping with the Limited’s uber-luxurious ethos, the Ram 1500 Kentucky Derby Edition includes Ram’s fabulous Uconnect 12-inch touchscreen display, four-corner auto-leveling air suspension, and power-retracting running boards. Naturally, a truck pitched at the horse crowd also comes standard with a trailer hitch and Ram’s blind spot monitor featuring automatic trailer detection. This latter item gives the truck an ability to alert drivers to vehicles in the trailer’s blind spot once the truck has learned the trailer’s total length.

The Kentucky Derby Edition also includes premium full-leather front and rear reclining seats with heating and cooling, plus snazzy genuine wood and metal trim. Base price for the 2019 Ram 1500 Kentucky Derby Edition is $53,190 plus $1,645 destination charge and is on sale now. Production is limited to 2,000 units.
