Kid-sized ATVs and SxS machines have been around for a while, but this time, Polaris has given the market a bit of a rethink and imbued their newest pint-sized machine with a dose of technology.

The new Ranger 150 EFI, a youth vehicle for riders 10 years and older, features rider-safety technology designed for parents’ peace of mind while letting kiddos experience the fun of driving their own vehicle.

Parents can toss out the zip ties and clothespins jury-rigged to limit a machine’s speed. Driven by the company’s Ride Command tech, safety features now include geofencing, digital speed limiting, and a passcode protected safe-start. All of these gee-whiz features can, naturally, be controlled by a smartphone.

“As an avid rider, I love being able to share the joy of riding with my family, but as a parent, I also want to ensure I’m creating a safe environment where my kids can have fun, learn and gain experience driving off-road vehicles,” said Chris Musso, president of Off-Road Vehicles at Polaris. These new technologies sure beat chasing after one’s kid on foot once they start to stray from the trail or backyard.

Using the Polaris Ride Command app, adults can set riding boundaries for kiddos using the geofencing feature. This tech uses GPS and other digital information to limit where the machine can be driven. Vexingly for youngsters, a digital speed limiting feature allows parents to determine speed limits both inside and outside of pre-established riding areas, helping ensure that kids are riding at the appropriate speed for their age, experience, and terrain.

For example, a person could limit the speed to walking pace where they know the trail is rough but allow for more shenanigans once the land opens up into a flat area. An adjustable steering wheel and driver’s seat allows the Ranger 150 EFI to grow along with the youngster, as the 10 – 16 age bracket tends to grow quite quickly.

A passcode-protected system controls who can operate the vehicle and when it can be operated. Equipped with a seatbelt interlocking system, the vehicle limits max speed to six mph until the seat belt is engaged. This feature wouldn’t go astray in some road-going vehicles. Additional equipment included with the Ranger 150 EFI is a high visibility flag, a brace of helmets, and LED lighting.

It might be aimed at kids, but the Ranger 150 EFI packs in a full 8 inches of ground clearance and can carry 50-pounds of gear in its cargo box. The unit stands 58-inches high and measures 85-inches in length. Adult-sized two-passenger Rangers are about 20 inches longer. Weight is estimated at 673lbs.

“Powered by innovative technology with safety as the top priority, the Ranger 150 EFI is designed to give Ranger-loving families a way to extend their passion of driving off-road vehicles to the next generation and make riding a family adventure,” said Musso in a statement.

The Ranger 150 EFI is available in any color you want so long as it’s Solar Red. Expect this two-wheel drive machine to appear in dealers later this month with a pricetag of $4,999.
