Dakar-Rally-1

The 40th running of the Dakar Rally is underway and there are plenty of ways to follow all the off-road racing action. 

The 2018 version of the race has 337 vehicles competing in 14 stages over a total of 5592 miles, putting the race vehicles through some tough terrain. Five of the stages are pure sand dunes, while a total of five days will be spent at an altitude above 9800 feet, putting man and machine to the test.

This year’s race begins in Lima, Peru, goes on to La Paz, Bolivia, and ends in Cordoba, Argentina.

The official Dakar website has a live leaderboard if you want to track specific racers and a live news section which is constantly updated with short written updates.

RedBull.tv has excellent coverage with live video updates coming out everyday wrapping up the day’s race highlights.

Of course, there is always social media, with a Twitter account that is releasing live updates on the rally as well.

An official Dakar YouTube channel also has coverage, releasing videos daily highlighting different racers, stages, and vehicles. A number of those videos, including a few explainers about the race, are embedded below.
