Laughlin, NV
– With all the intensity and pressures of short course racing, it’s a welcomed relief for “The Stinger” Brandon Arthur to sneak out to the desert for some flat-out high-speed running in his Competitive Metals, Pro Traffic Services, Toyo Tires, Rigid Industries, HRT Motorsports Trophy Truck. That’s what he did at the SNORE series Rage at the River event in Laughlin, Nevada.

The race is a two-day, heat-race event on a course that has a combination of a manmade infield section with natural desert terrain. Five laps on the 12 mile course meant it was a full throttle sprint on every lap. Racing comes with many challenges; preparing the vehicle, planning and logistics, and of course, the competition. Sometimes we forget about the sheer joy of unmitigated speed and adrenaline while behind the wheel. Brandon got a heavy dose while at Rage At The River.

Brandon qualified in the number two spot on Friday which meant he would start heat five from the front row on Saturday. He and Dale Dondel charged off into the desert at the drop of the green flag. Dondel had problems; Brandon was in the lead. Then Brandon developed an issue with his alternator’s exciter wire. His first lap took only 10 minutes but as his alternator troubles continued, it slowed his pace. “I was a little nervous,” said The Stinger, “It had been a while since I was in the truck. We were very fast, we just had a little problem. It felt great to be back in the desert and going fast.”

Sunday’s race got off to a great start. Brandon finished lap one at an average speed of 70 miles per hour! At the end of lap one, he had a mechanical; losing the torque converter in the transmission. All things considered, it was a great weekend in Laughlin.

Brandon put on a heck of a show for the fans and was able to dust off the Competitive Metals, Pro Traffic Services, Toyo Tires, Rigid Industries, HRT Motorsports Trophy Truck for one final race of the year. After the holidays, he will be back to work preparing for next season. He will be back in 2016 making a run for the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series Pro Lite championship.
