BARK RIVER, Mich. — Once again, CJ Greaves broke out the PRO 4WD broom in his Maxxis Tires Toyota, this time at the Throwdown in the UP at Bark River International Raceway in a near-photo finish against his father, three-time and defending class champion Johnny Greaves. In PRO 2WD, Keegan Kincaid and his Cooper Tires were able to prevent the younger Greaves from completing the double sweep after Kincaid made a daring last-lap pass for his fifth victory of the 2015 season. Kincaid’s Cooper Tire teammate, Luke Johnson, kicked off the PRO races with a strong victory in PRO Light, his second this season and the second of his career at Bark River.

The main event for Sunday’s TORC: The Off-Road Championship Presented by AMSOIL round in Upper Peninsula did not disappoint. AMSOIL/Cooper Tire/Borla Exhaust driver Scott Douglas took the lead on the green with Mike Jenkins behind him, but Johnny Greaves quickly took the point in his Toyota before they finished Lap 1. CJ Greaves passed Douglas and fought his dad the entire race.

With two laps to go, CJ was all over his dad’s bumper forcing Johnny to change his line. In the last turn before the checkered flag, the two touched, giving CJ the lead and the victory. CJ only led about 100 feet the entire race, but they were the most important ones. Douglas rounded out the podium in third.

“It’s awesome to be racing against my dad,” said a jubilant CJ Greaves in the Winner’s Circle. “There were multiple turns on the second-to-last lap and the last lap that we were almost rubbing all the way through an inch apart. I knew he was looking at me and I was looking at him with a big grin on my face!”

For the weekend’s final PRO 2WD race, Marty Hart was on the pole with Kincaid on his tail. CJ Greaves was able to come around both for the lead and while Hart and Kincaid were battling for second, Hart slowed and gave up the position. After the competition yellow, Greaves kept his Toyota on point with Kincaid dogging the defending champ’s every move. On the last lap amidst some old-school beating and banging, Kincaid finally got around Greaves and took his truck home to the Winner’s Circle for his fifth PRO 2WD win of the season. Greaves finished second with Hart in third.

“This is awesome,” Kincaid said. “This is pretty close to my home so I consider it having two home tracks. Yesterday, we didn’t quite have it for CJ, but we made a slight change and it put us on top today. We knew we had to pressure CJ and we hope we put on a good battle for this crowd.”

The PRO Light battle laid down the blueprint for what TORC fans could expect of the day’s PRO races. Cam Reimers led the field to green with Johnson, Doug Mittag, Shawn Morris, and Kyle Hart battling for position behind him. With three turns left before the mandatory caution, Johnson executed a flawless crossover pass, taking the lead from Reimers at the line.

At the green, Morris was involved in an incident with several other trucks, shuffling him to the rear of the field. Johnson was able to extend his lead with Mittag fighting Reimers for second. Mittag eventually passed Reimers and Andrew Carlson, a sno-cross veteran in his rookie season in TORC, powered his way into the top three, earning his first-ever TORC PRO Light podium. Johnson earned his second class victory of the season and the third of his career with Mittag in the runner-up slot.

“Clean air here is such a big deal,” Johnson said from the podium. “The roost here at Bark River is always gnarly, so I knew if I didn’t stick that pass, I was going to be fighting Cam and I only had three tear offs left. It was so awesome to get out there and run clean laps.”

The 2015 TORC: The Off-Road Championship Presented by AMSOIL season wraps up Sept. 5-6 at Crandon International Off-Road Raceway for The Keys to the Big House with all three PRO titles up for grabs. An announcement regarding the 2015 TORC finale will be made later this week.
