X-Games-Luyendyk-Austin-6-9-15
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Arie Luyendyk Jr. brought home the bronze medal this weekend at X Games, driving the #25 GUNK® off-road truck at the Circuit of Americas in Austin, TX. Luyendyk, forced to go to a back-up truck after breaking an axel in practice, qualified 9th securing a spot in the quarterfinal heat races. Going out in Heat 3, Luyendyk finished second behind Burt Jenner to avoid the LCQ round and lock-up a spot in the final. Starting the race towards the back of the pack, Luyendyk came back to win the bronze in the action-packed final. The race ended with a red flag on the last lap; Sheldon Creed took Gold, Robby Gordon Silver and Luyendyk Bronze.

“I can’t express how happy I am to grab a medal here at X Games. We started off with some mechanical issues, but Robby Gordon’s crew did an amazing job switching the trucks out before qualifying and that made all the difference,” said Luyendyk. “The race was insane. I knew if I could stay close to Robby, I’d have a chance. We cut through the field together and I drove like mad to catch LeDuc to be able to overtake him when he would serve his penalty. LeDuc never served the penalty and was disqualified. After all the bad luck at the beginning of the event, the chips fell our way. I’d love to thank my partners GUNK, Hostile Wheels and all the other people involved for believing in me. Time to come back next year and grab the gold.”

“What a great day for Arie and all of us at RSC. Arie and entire team in Austin showed what it means to be “GUNKTough” by getting that backup truck race-ready and out on the track and driving his way through a very talented field of drivers from 8th to 3rd,” said Marshal Livingstone, Director of Marketing and Consumer Insights at RSC Chemical Solutions. “Winning the bronze at X Games, in just our second year of competition, is huge and we’re excited for the rest of our racing season with Arie.”

Luyendyk also races the #25 GUNK®  PRO 2 truck in the TORC Off Road Series.
