CHARLOTTE, N.C.
– Following their tremendous Australian debut at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide V8 Supercar race in March, the SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks Presented by TRAXXAS will return to the land down under October 23-25 with the addition of Gold Coast 600 V8 Supercar race to its 2015 schedule.

Like the Clipsal 500, the SST series and its most prolific drivers will race against Australia’s top driving talent at the legendary Surfers Paradise street circuit in Queensland just south of Brisbane. SST founder and president Robby Gordon, who raced multiple times on the Surfers Paradise circuit with the IndyCar series, commented on SST’s return to Australia:

“I have so many amazing memories of the Gold Coast event. It is one of the very best street tracks in the world and the way the Gold Coast turns it on is incredible. We found in March of this year at the Clipsal 500 that the Australian motorsports fans are amazing and love to see the SSTs fly through the air and beat and bang only the way they can.

“To be able to bring our trucks to Queensland’s biggest party is going to be a huge highlight for our series. The SST’s on that track will be absolutely spectacular and we can’t wait to get back to Australia in October.”

As previously announced, the Clipsal 500 Adelaide will again host the SST series in 2016, with exact dates to be announced when the V8 Supercar schedule is released.

In March at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide, which attracted more than 285,000 fans during three days of racing, the SSTs became an overnight sensation with fans, media and sponsors alike. The trucks generate speeds in excess of 140 miles per hour and fly further than 100 feet off the end of man-made ramps that are positioned on the racing circuit. The trucks race the same course as the high-powered V8 Supercars, but add the additional element of off-road jumping to the excitement.

In the last of three races at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide, the final impression left with the sold-out crowd was SST-regular Sheldon Creed rolling his Traxxas-sponsored truck across the finish line in third place, hammering the outside fence and landing on his wheels to the delight of the crowd as Creed waived in appreciation as an incredible first SST trip to Australia concluded.

V8 Supercars’ CEO James Warburton said with the addition of the Stadium Super Trucks the Gold Coast 600 would continue to grow.

“Last year we said that we would make this the biggest entertainment event on the Gold Coast and we delivered,” he said. “Now we are raising the bar. The stadium trucks have to be seen to be believed. Their show in Adelaide had people on their feet. It is fantastic they have been able to come back to Australia and the Castrol Gold Coast 600 in October.”

In addition to the V8 Supercars and SST trucks, the Surfers Paradise street circuit event will also include the Porsche Carrera Cup Australia, V8 Utes, Formula 4, the remarkable Showtime FMX motocross stunt shows and Matt Mingay’s Hot Wheels Stunt Team.

Now in its third season of competition, the SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks Presented by TRAXXAS is a full series of races featuring identically prepared trucks resembling their smaller radio control TRAXXAS counterparts. The trucks race at large IndyCar street circuit events, massive Australian V8 SuperCar races, in stadiums, on dirt and on paved surfaces. The versatile trucks provide an off-the-ground dimension to racing normally reserved for the off-road worlds of Baja and Dakar, which few American fans have an opportunity to witness in person. Gordon’s introduction of the SST series has re-introduced fascinating elements of off-road racing to crowds regularly in excess of 100,000 fans at venues including the Grand Prix of Long Beach, the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix, X Games Austin, the Clipsal 500 V8 SuperCar race in Adelaide, Australia and other high-profile events.

About SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks Presented by Traxxas
Influenced by the former Mickey Thompson Stadium Off-Road Racing Series, where drivers such as Gordon, Casey Mears and six-time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson got their start, Gordon created SST in response to the public’s overwhelming interest in trucks and off-road racing. His plan to re-launch the former stadium series has led to exciting racing on both asphalt and dirt, while producing one of the most extreme forms of action sports today.

Other than the trucks launching 20 feet in the air covering distances more than 150 feet, what sets the SST program apart from other series is the fact that all the SST trucks are identically prepared and delivered to drivers in race-ready condition. Race winners are decided by driver skill rather than individual team engineering and budgets. Drivers and their personal mechanics are assigned specific SST mechanics who together tune and make minor adjustments to the 600-horsepower trucks.
